Well then, you must like losing your job to someone in Mexico who will make $3/hour.
Union leaders at an air conditioner factory in Indianapolis threatened with losing 1,400 jobs to Mexico said on Tuesday the plants owner expects to pay Mexican workers $3 an hour compared to an average of more than $20 an hour for the U.S. workers.
"We have not given up the fight yet," said Chuck Jones, president of the United Steelworkers union local that represents workers at the Carrier Corp plant. "But Carrier has pretty well indicated that the wage differential is too great and there is not much we can do."
A spokeswoman for Carrier, a unit of United Technologies Corp (UTX.N), said the company pays a "competitive wage" based on local conditions and could not discuss pay levels.
So what do you do about this?
Without wage and environmental parity tariffs you do nothing about it, because you can't.
This is a national policy issue. China protects its industries with tariffs and local-content rules that make it effectively impossible for firms to do the same thing to them. But the United States, in return, gives China, Mexico and other nations open access to goods and services produced there even when their "advantage" comes from paying people $3/hour or having free rein to pollute the land, water and air instead of having to dispose of their toxic wastes cleanly and safely.
What drives this disparity and wage need? Let us remember that $3/hour is in fact roughly 50% more than the minimum wage was when I started working. In other words, not a terrible wage. Now it's less than half of the minimum wage.
In the intervening years the federal government went from $600 billion in outstanding marketable debt to $14 trillion, an increase of 23 times.
Every dollar of deficit spending debases the currency every time, dollar-for-dollar. It thus makes prices go up; this is arithmetic, not politics, and cannot be prevented.
At the same time non-financial businesses increased their debt (that is, circulating "moneyness") by a factor of approximately 10 times, which also debased the currency and households were goaded into borrowing almost 12 times the amount of money, which in turn also debased the currency as well.
But while corporations were goaded by government policies that "encouraged" such borrowing, as were households (e.g. mortgage interest tax deductions, etc) the worst offender by far was the Federal Government.
Anyone and everyone complaining about Carrier and others moving jobs to Mexico who also supports or allows any form of government deficit spending, no matter what the funds are spent on, needs to STFU.
Your incessant screaming for more-more-more-more that is not paid for via current taxes is why that pay disparity exists, in part, and is a large part of why those jobs have and are leaving.
YOU are destroying this nation's job base.
Please read the article. It may make a difference to you
I do not like nor do I trust Trump.
This is historically inaccurate. Tariffs used to fund the entire federal budget with no deficits. The income tax that the Free Traders seem to ignore is the real enemy. The income tax is a steady stream of income for socialist intervention allowing the gloBULList to off load and move elsewhere.
I am just curios as to why? None of the other candidates have created thousands of jobs as Trump has done?
What an idiotic piece of clap trap. The idiot presumes the latest of tRumps various meandering positions have never occurred to anyone else. He has demosntrated that what he says is to win. Once he wins he’ll do whatever he wants, and probably not what he said. It’s how the Donald rolls.
To me this is all stunningly simple ....but I do tax accounting and before that I owned a construction business. That same area of construction is now under various government mandates to upgrade engines, control “toxic” substances and emissions, not to mention mandates regarding workforce diversity...etc. etc. The government has made something that wasn’t easy in the first place a whole lot harder.
This is why I appreciate Trump - he knows what it’s like where the rubber meets the road and he understands what needs to be changed to fix the overall problems.
Without getting this done we will just crumble.
I think FORD just announced they are NOT moving their facility to Mexico after all!!!!
Like Trump suits, made in Mexico?
Oh, yeah. Trump!
I quit reading after the first nonsensical line.
Ford has plants worldwide.
Who’s your candidate?
Oh, you again! None of the other candidates have said a word about outsourcing American jobs. Trump’s the only one not in the pocket of all of those business jerks selling out the future of American manufacturing.
You need to rethink your position.
“...Once he wins he’ll do whatever he wants...”
You just described every politician we’ve had for the last 25 years....
Time for something different...
I had a life long job in the automotive part business 30 years! Yet I don’t blame Carrier for moving to mexico, the blame lies with the tax code. If the tax code rewards this then it will happen, or if the tax code punishes success this will happen.
One need only look at the current tax code to understand what is going on, 74,608-page-long federal tax code. Only a army of tax attorneys can comprehend it, and who can afford that army, giant corporations.
There is a reason Warren Buffet is refusing to pay 4 billion dollar tax bill, he has that army at his command.
GE payed no tax in 2014, because of that army.
Where is your army when you fill out your taxes, yeah you don’t have one so you cower in fear of making a mistake!
Does Warren Buffet cower when the subpoena comes, absolutely not, he just calls up his troops and says, hold back the wolves!
Dump the tax code got to a flat tax and this all ends!
OF course Ford has plants world wide who didn’t know that?
Ronald Reagan’s liberal actions:
In 1950 Reagan helped raise money
for democrat Helen Gahagan Douglas
against Richard Nixon for California senator.
In 1966, Reagan put together a campaign group
to run for California governor. They were
Phil Battaglia, Casper Weinberger and Jack Warner.
They were all from the liberal Rockefeller wing of
the Republican party, not the conservative Goldwater wing.
1970 as governor, Reagan appointed Donald Wright as the
Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court. Wright’s
court later found the death penalty unconstitutional in California.
1972 Reagan supported the re-election of President Richard Nixon instead of giving support to conservative Republican candidate John Ashbrook, who ran an effort
to dump Nixon.
As California Governor, Reagan used his own office funds to keep the Office of Economic Opportunity alive in the state and he tried to make California the first state to create its own consumer affairs dept.
1976 in his presidential run against Gerald Ford, Reagan chose the most liberal Republican Senator in the senate, Richard Schweiker as his vice presidential running mate. In 1980, he chose another liberal running mate
George HW Bush.
1985 Reagan, as president, spent $5-billion to bail out the Continental Bank of Illinois. He also added
$9-billion to the International Monetary Fun so Mexico, Brazil and Argentina could pay the interest on
their big debts to the American banks. At the same time, he would not bail out American farmers.
Reagan’s 4th year budget was $141-billion more than Carter’s 4th year budget. Reagan’s total deficits for 4 years was 4-times the total of Carter’ 4-year total deficits.
Reagan increased the national debt in 4-years as much as all the presidents from Hoover to Carter did.
Reagan Supported the Brady Gun Bill in a speech at George Washington University in 1991.
UTX paid 23% in Federal taxes last year. Many individuals pay that same amount.
I ask you...Were those suits made by a company that was Mexican owned or by an American company that moved to Mexico?
I don’t think Reagan can run anymore....He’s dead....
