The issue with them is currency manipulation. Trump has said he'd end that.

I thought fair trade meant the workers got a living wage. They do manipulate the currency. FWIW, I have to be absolutely end-of-options-and-desperately-need-something before I’ll buy made in China. For some tech items, that only leaves Japan.

Okay. As far as your suggestion that Trump doesn’t mention Germany because he is of German ancestry, that’s not necessarily true. It might instead be because our trade deficits with Germany are not the result of unfair trade practices on the part of Germany whereas our trade deficits with, say China, are.

There are other reasons that a country may have a trade deficit with another country. It could be due to normal market forces. As far as I’m aware, Germany doesn’t put in place trade barriers to our products the way China does. They definitely respect intellectual property agreements more than China does. On top of that, China’s increased deficits have come at the direct expense of our manufacturing base, much more so than with Germany.
