Today, the lone Republican lawmaker in the Hawaii State Senate Senator Sam Slom formally endorsed GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz.
"After eight long years of Barack Obama's failed policies, I want someone in the White House who respects the presidency, who respects the American people, and who respects the U.S. Constitution. Ted Cruz will excel on all those points and more. I urge my fellow Republicans in the Aloha State to join me in supporting consistent conservative Texas senator Ted Cruz to become our party's nominee and become the forty-fifth president of the United States."
His endorsement comes just days before Hawaii's own presidential primary on Tuesday when Republicans will vote at polling places statewide in a caucus to determine the number of delegates the candidates will win here before the Republican National Convention in July.
Sam Slom, who was the original backer of Ben Carson's campaign in Hawaii, was recently able to transfer his support and endorsement to Ted Cruz in the wake of Carson's announcement that he has suspended his quest for the GOP nomination.
Wait a minute! I thought everybody hates Ted. And that he doesn’t have one friend anywhere.
He has literally millions of volunteers working on the campaign and endorsements out the wazoo.
No Senate endorsements
“Sam Nunn, wants your gun!”
He’s a gun-grabber.
No Senate endorsementsNo, the current meme is that he's just another insider. Please try to keep up with the current propaganda.
What does former Georgia Senator Sam Nunn have to do with this endorsement?
His pitch is respect and right on target.
Oops, I misread the name. Sorry about that.
So, you want Cruz to be endorsed by Mitch and friends? No thanks.
Many years ago, Sam Slom was Hawaii State Chairman of Young Americans for Freedom. He seems to have gotten even better and better with the passing years.
“Sen Sam Slom” : say that ten times fast.
That's okay....there's very few of the Senate "boot-lickers" I would want endorsing Cruz anyway.

I recall his appearance at the 1977 YAF national conference at the Statler Hilton Hotel in New York City. He began his presentation by shouting, "aloha!" and the enthusiastic crowd responded by chanting, "play it again, Sam!"
IIRC, I did not make that convention. I met Sam when I ran YAF’s 10th Anniversary Conference in Hartford/West Hartford and Sharon in 1970. I was amazed that he and others came all the way from Hawaii. Great guy. Great Conference too. It lasted most of a week.
I joined YAF in 1970 when I was at Occidental College, but that college was—and is—so liberal that there were hardly any conservatives there. The few YAF members on campus were libertarians, so my involvement didn’t last long. But at the University of Southern California, where I did graduate work, the YAF chapter was more robust. These were the years when Craig Shirley, now a renowned author on political history was a mover and shaker in YAF. I met with him many times in the YAF office on Wilshire Blvd., just west of downtown LA.
I did know YAF National Directors Bill “Vito the Bump” Saracino, Pat Nolan, Gary Kreep and another fellow who was well enough off to acquire land claims on Wrangell Island to obtain standing to sue Henry Kissinger and the accommodationist Nixon Administration for turning Wrangell Island over to the soviets.
That other fellow is Mark Seidenberg, an old friend of mine, although I haven't seen him since he moved out of the area several years ago. For many years, he was a traffic manager at the Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC and is currently the national chairman of the American Independent Party. He earned the nickname "Island Boy" for his pursuit of land claims on Wrangell Island.
Yes, Mark Seidenberg is the fellow I was thinking of.
