Will Macomb County’s Reagan Democrats become Trump Democrats?

(AUDIO-AT-LINK)

Indiana Governor Mike Pence brings the campaign spotlight to Macomb County tonight. He'll be speaking at the Lincoln Day dinner in Shelby Township. Organizers say it’s the largest crowd in recent memory for the Lincoln Day dinner, and it’s proof that Macomb County is still fertile ground for the GOP message.

Today, Chad Selweski joined us to discuss the political history of Macomb County. He's a former longtime political reporter for the Macomb Daily, now a freelance writer and publisher of the blog Politically Speaking.

Macomb County has a long history of conservatism, according to Selweski. In the 1980s, the county even saw a rise of "Regan Democrats," who, demographically-speaking, share a lot with Trump supporters today.

And in fact, Macomb County is looking like a real bright spot for Trump in Michigan. According to a recent poll, he might be up by as many as 20 points there.

"And in fact, Macomb County is looking like a real bright spot for Trump in Michigan. According to a recent poll, he might be up by as many as 20 points there."

4 Counties turn Michigan Blue; Wayne, Wastenaw, Macomb, and Oakland I think is the 4th. Get Macomb, maybe Oakland, and make Wayne a fight ( lot of blue collar cities like Wayne and Westland ). Wastenaw, home of "Moscow on the Huron" aka the University of Michigan, forgetabout it...

It is do-able and I'll say more on or about 11/7/16...

Good! Michigan is in play. I have long thought that the depressed, job-suffering industrial Midwest might decide this election. Maybe so. Maybe so.

I know this is a common thought about my state, but only Detroit really fits your description.

What 85% of Michigan does is tourism, tourism, tourism, hunting, fishing, golf, and snow sports. Not to mention the tons of crystal clear lakes and water sports.

People come here from all over the world to golf. We have blue ribbon trout streams that draw people from all over the country.

Thanks for your hope for our state. I am working Trump as hard as possible at every opportunity with complete strangers...

Please enjoy these short, scenic videos. And please come visit us!

You make me think of a friend of mine on Facebook who lives in New Jersey (in Manahawkin). He tells me that it is really only the northern part of that state that goes Dem big time and that is what in turn makes New Jersey blue, as the southern and rural areas of that state can be very Republican.
