Inside the fight that could derail the Democratic Party

In what should be Democrats' strongest moment since November, a series of emotional and racially charged clashes are forcing the party to once again confront the problem that has plagued it for a year: How to incorporate the supporters of Bernie Sanders.

The Vermont independent senator himself is winning battles over the direction of the Democratic Party. He has emerged as a messaging leader on health care, appeared on a "unity tour" with the party's new chairman and helped craft a populist economic agenda for the midterm elections. Many Democrats even concede the possibility that Sanders could enter the 2020 presidential race as the party's frontrunner if he chooses to run.

But even as Sanders and party leadership increasingly make ties on Capitol Hill, infighting with roots in the ideologically loaded and often deeply personal 2016 primary are threatening to blow up the détente.

This new series of emotional and racially tinged arguments could shatter a fragile peace, forged in opposition to President Donald Trump, and undermine Democratic efforts to claw back control from Republicans in Congress during next year's midterm election season.

"Unity requires give and take. But it seems that it's just take, take, take from the Berniecrats," said Nina Turner....

Looking for unity after they intentionally sabotaged Bernie’s presidential campaign then blew the election with their anointed one.

I think in twenty years...it’ll be noted that Bernie opened up an entire discussion over the Democratic Party and the stagnant nature that they’ve been in....since the 1990s. It’s moved from being the party of the middle-class working guy...to a party of agendas.

In some ways...the primary period of 2016 did the same thing for the GOP...showing that they’ve also been in a stagnate nature for at least two decades.

True, that. However, Bernie was well paid for his efforts in running in the primaries and acting as an opponent to Shrillary. And he and his missus are enjoying the $600K house they bought with the payoff money.

The Berniecrats are the white race’s last stronghold in the party. If you’re black, you want black leadership. If you’re Hispanic, you want Hispanic leadership. If you’re Asian, you want Asian leadership. The Berniecrats are a way for the white know-it-all massahs to continue to rule the party and keep the multiculturals on the second tier where they can be trotted out as props in order to scream “racist” at Republicans but, otherwise, kept out of the most important decision-making.

Deep down, the white Democrats know that the eight years of Obama was an economic disaster and the corrupt third-world behavior of many in charge was a big reason why Middle America kicked them out.

It won’t be Kum-bah-ya in Democratland behind closed doors when the finger-pointing starts for 2016 - and 2018 when they see that Trump isn’t winning them seats either. They snickered and sneered at this crazy old socialist but he somehow got the millenials to buy into his pablum which makes him someone they ignore at their own peril.

<>The building's security team uses crowd control measures when large crowds come, a DNC spokeswoman said. It's not an unusual step, particularly for a party that was hacked whose hard drive was leaked in 2016 by Seth Rich and with the political world on edge after the shooting attempted massacre of Republicans at a congressional baseball practice.<>

The left ALWAYS engage in internecine battles. Eventually, the most bloody-minded types ALWAYS wind up on top.

Here’s my take and I’d appreciate any corrections or additional observations.

1. The Berniecrats are party outsiders who want to take over the party and control its direction.
2. The party doesn’t want outsiders who haven’t paid their dues jumping to the head of the line.
3. The Berniecrats are not focused on the party winning elections at some future date. They are focused on taking over the party’s direction right now and winning elections isn’t on their to-do list until they control the party’s direction. (They probably imagine that if they can just set the entire agenda that the average voter will jump at the chance to elect their candidates.)
4. The various arguers are using classic identity politics against each other.
5. My impression is, the Berniecrats are political idiots, who, if put in charge, would essentially destroy the Democratic party. If not put in charge, they will fight against the party’s chosen candidates and direction.
6. Overall impression; adults have lost control of the classroom. Democrats are in more danger from Berniecrat activists than they are from Republican opponents.

Don’t be so sure about the unpopularity of the Berniecrat agenda. I read a pretty interesting analysis the other day that really showed that the center of political gravity in America is economically to the left and culturally to the right. Populism basically. But the donors in both parties are the opposite, economically to the right and culturally to the left, especially as compared to the base in each party.

The difference between the Berniecrats and mainstream Democrats like Kamala Harris is not on cultural issue, they agree there. The difference is on economic issues, but if the Berniecrats win that, I do think it would make the Democrats more popular, not less. But also not as well supported financially.

The reason we ended up with Social Security is FDR was concerned about a primary challenge from, I believe, Huey Long. If I recall, Huey Long had a platform that the government should give everybody a basic salary. It was a really popular idea and FDR was politically backed into a corner; do something similar or potentially lose a primary challenge. Thus, we got Social Security. And, to ensure the point was made, the politicians immediately violated one of the requirements of the act by giving benefits to people already 65 or older who had never paid into the “trust fund.”

This was economic populism and classic giveaway politics in one motion. Even some Republicans supported the measure as, unlike Obamacare, they were included in setting it up. Incidentally, one of their most stringent requirements was that the system would never, under any circumstances, be used as an identity card, (because; mark of the beast) but, of course, it immediately was. All through school that SS number was my student number and today you can’t do any banking or credit applications without coughing it up.

How to move further left. That’s the ticket.
