HASLAM CONSIDERING RUN FOR U.S. SENATE SEAT
Tennessean ^

Posted on 09/28/2017 4:52:55 PM PDT by Sybeck1

If Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam enters the race he would immediately become a leading contender for the seat Corker has held since 2006

Gov. Bill Haslam said Thursday he is considering a U.S. Senate run, leaving the door open for the Knoxville Republican to take the post Bob Corker is vacating.

Haslam made the comment after an event Thursday morning.

"It merits spending some time thinking about it and praying about it," Haslam told reporters.

The governor said he's talked to Corker about the idea in recent days, adding that he had fully expected the U.S. senator to run for a third term.

Haslam makes Corker look like Jesse Helms. Stopping this left-wing phony Never Trumper is of paramount importance.

All this cretin has to do is flood the GOP primary with Democrats to vote for him and take a plurality. It’s worked to deny Conservative nominees since the ‘90s (thanks to open primaries and no runoffs).

They elected Alexander and Corker, two of the worst undocumented Democrats in the Senate so I’m not getting my hopes up too much.

This perfectly describes conduct we don't need. Swapping one RINO for another.

Marsha Blackburn? An enthusiastic YES!

Agreed. Marsha should have been House Speaker instead of Ryan.

She easily has the stuff to be a great senator.

“Rino in rino out”

More accurate: Rino out; even worse Rino in.

That was largely due to Dubya White House and Tokyo Rove doing their damndest to stop Conservative Rep. Ed Bryant. Bryant was of modest means and they used huge amounts of $$ to buy the seat out from under the choice of the party base.

The base is pretty hopping mad that they’ve been shut out and denied a real Conservative for so long, but they’ve got to coalesce behind a single candidate this time. A split field on the right with Haslam on the left is the worst thing that can happen. But we absolutely have got to get closed primaries and runoffs, something the establishment viscerally opposes.

That seems to be the key, a single conservative vs the weasel.

Yep. Much worse than Corker.
Haslam is the head RINO here.

I will vote for a RAT before I vote for Haslam.

Haslam is tolerated as gov because he has a (nominal) R after his name, but he is not loved or even liked in TN. I think he would be stupid to run, but there again I have not been impressed with his intelligence either.

His never-Trumper antics did not endear him at all to the base.

Haslam is the establishment choice. If Marsha Blackburn gets in, she will stand a pretty good chance of winning. If she doesn’t get in, Joe Carr probably will. He could win, but probably wouldn’t be the favorite to do so. We either need Haslam out or Blackburn in. Either one would probably work. We definitely don’t need multiple conservatives running. (The stench of Van Hilleary’s run still lingers.)

Carr is too damaged to make any headway in this race. He would only serve to divide the field on the right.

I agree that he isn’t the top choice, but if Blackburn or Green doesn’t run, he may end up being the only conservative choice. I hope not, but that may be how it’s shaping up.

Because this is an open seat, we will get a top tier Conservative.
