It’s never much of a surprise what NJ does. Mostly it just keep raising taxes or did until Christie came along.

Why is this gold star parent injecting himself into a governor’s race?

Does he believe that Kim Guadagno needs a pocket Constitution?

Shame on this huckster.

The GOP candidate may lose because the Republicans in DC want to raise taxes by eliminating deductions for state and local taxes. That will pound middle class voters in NJ. Nice going Paul Ryan.

This is a bad thing?

Tell your state governments to stop raising state taxes then.

These Rat Governors should have their feet held to the fire when it comes to their spending.

Oh, is that all? Why didn’t I think of that? All I have to do is tell State and Local governments to not raise my taxes?! Wow. You’re a genius. Thanks!

Can I do the same with the Feds? “Hey Paul Ryan and Donald Trump - don’t raise my taxes!”

Ummmmm....they don’t seem to be listening. Do you have any other advice?

You're not getting it. The reason why blue states are fighting to keep their deductions is so they don't have to be held accountable to the people in their states. They are free to raise taxes and spend wildly, knowing that taxpayers will agree because they get to deduct it from their federal taxes.

And before you turn around and say that I secretly want to keep my deductions, well you're wrong. Because I want ALL deductions, credits, and loopholes eliminated and switch to a hard 10%-15% flat income tax, which would probably raise more revenue than the current corrupt system the size of 25 Bibles.

Look, I respect you. I've read your posts over the years here and you know your stuff.

The reason why blue states are fighting to keep their deductions is so they don't have to be held accountable to the people in their states. They are free to raise taxes and spend wildly, knowing that taxpayers will agree because they get to deduct it from their federal taxes.

In general that has some truth to it, but is not the whole story, or even the reason this is being opposed. I'll grant you it is the mantra of Paul Ryan and many lobbyists that have been squawking on the news programs.

I have heard the same talking points from them like they were hatched from the same iPhone text that they all sent each other. My favorite is: 'By repealing this deduction, state and local governments will be persuaded to actually lower their taxes so as to not overly burden their constituents.' I would laugh if it wasn't so ridiculous.

Yes, excessive taxation is a bad thing. In my state we have a Republican Governor who stopped the wild increases year to year that were out of control, and begun during a Democrat administration. But he couldn't repeal the ones already in place. I also have a Republican representative in Congress. I have met him - a terrific guy, conservative, and supporter of the military. He is being demonized for voting against this monstrosity, because he knows it will kill many of us with a huge tax increase.

Repealing SALT will adversely affect housing markets in key states. The double whammy of increased Federal taxation and lowering of property values is going to be horrible to areas of the country that already pay some of the most revenue to the Federal government.

Even if the standard deduction was tripled, many middle class families could still see a significant tax increase. We simply don't know now what other changes they have in store for us in the final bill.

Even states outside of the northeast and California will feel this pain. A family in Texas making $100,000 will see an increase of about $2,500 on average of their Federal tax bill. The national average is about $3,500 saved on a family's tax bill with this deduction. Even in states like Virginia, certain district constituents save about $5,000 per year in taxes.

And I restate again - if this deduction is so "evil", why did the Republicans write the bill so that business and corporations get to keep their state and local tax deduction, but not individuals?

One of the members of the House Ways and Means Committee told a reporter: "Without that deduction, many of them would go out of business!"

But it's OK to screw millions of us, right?

I think if Trump and Congress ram this through, they will dance their jig in front of the cameras and tell us how great the rape is going to feel. But I also believe, with every fiber of my being, that this "deal" will become a cancer that will cause the GOP to lose House seats, and will give the Democrats ammunition to destroy Trump's agenda and political clout with working, middle class families.

He won states by appealing to the middle class, those being left in the dust. This "deal" will hurt millions of us.

Khizr should learn from how the Left celebrated Cindy Sheehan, then threw her away like a used gum wrapper - just like that - when she was no longer useful to them.

But something tells me he won’t.
