Can Donald Trump continue to defy political gravity?
CNN Politics ^ | May 5, 2018 | Harry Enten

The political future of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party over the next two years really comes down to one question: Do traditional measures of popularity mean anything when it comes to Trump?

If they do, the Republican Party and Trump could be in major trouble.

Usually, we wouldn't even think to ask whether a president with around a 40% approval rating would end up hurting his political party. Yet Trump did something that was seemingly impossible in 2016: He won the presidency, despite being the most unpopular candidate since at least 1952 and with Americans seeming to like the status quo.

President Barack Obama's net favorability rating in the final Gallup poll using a -5 to +5 scale was +16 percentage points. Trump came in with a -25 percentage point net favorability rating in the same scale. That 41 point difference should have been electoral poison for Trump....

Apparently Hillary was even more unpopular. She lost.

e. Usually, we wouldn't even think to ask whether a president with around a 40% approval rating would end up hurting his political party.

But, what if the actual approval number is 51% like Rasmussen says it is? And, of course, CNN leaves out the fact the Trump'a approval rating is been going up on average in all the polls. And, that strong economy benefits the party that holds the White House.

“Why isn’t our fake news hurting Trump”?

At this point, if MSM really wanted to sink Trump, they would report all the good news. Nobody would believe it.

Perhaps CNN hasn’t seen today’s Reuters/Ipsos poll of 1,337 registered voters that has Trump at...

49% approval, 49% disapproval

...despite being the most unpopular candidate since at least 1952 and with Americans seeming to like the status quo.

Wow...the only reason he was "unpopular" was the never-ending drumbeat by CNN and others against him.

And "Americans liking the status quo" -- what a joke. The Kenyan usurper forcing communism on America, trashing America mercilessly whenever he was out of the country, blocking every capital project possible, endless crony capitalism for bogus "green" projects, taking over healthcare with an unworkable socialistic system, fomenting racial strife whenever possible.

What status quo in that dog's breakfast did a rational person want to maintain? We wanted to maintain it so badly we through his hand-picked successor on the trash heap.

The stats are suspect. Yet if a blue wave occurs, I feel the President will successfully work with Democrats to at least get some of his agenda accomplished through compromise. No political labels apply to the President except being pragmatic. That of course assumes the I word goes away.

They saw how President Clinton became more popular during his impeachment and like President Johnson, wasn’t convicted. They probably won’t make that mistake again.

CNN: The most trusted trussed up name in FAKE news.

Keeping a failing (and flailing) CNN going, must cost Time-Warner a whole lot of money.

The more Trump is disparaged, the more I stand behind him. When they disparage him, they disparage me because he is the first candidate in many years that promoted my
conservative values.

CNN is a joke. Their Trump bashing is relentless; 24/7. Even when they are forced to cover a Trump accomplishment in a somewhat positive way, it’s always presented in a ‘yes, but’ sort of way.
