Should Democrats play it safe with a job guarantee?
The Week ^ | July 27, 2018 | Jeff Spross

Posted on 07/27/2018 11:05:45 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Democrats seem to agree: A job guarantee will be part of the 2020 election debate. What they don't yet agree on is what a "job guarantee" is.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is working on a full blown national bill to enshrine the right to a job. Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) has a bill that would essentially run a test pilot of Sanders' program. The Congressional Full Employment Caucus has been pushing yet another national job guarantee bill, with some differences from Sanders' plan, for years. Finally, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) just introduced his own bill, which would subsidize more private and public hiring alike.

The Democrats are a big diverse party, and they'll have to negotiate a lot of different preferences and approaches to ultimately unite behind such an ambitious idea. But as they come to an agreement around one shared definition of a job guarantee, the Democrats also need to understand the choices they make along the way — and their consequences.

Sanders sounds like he's working on a genuine guarantee: A government-run national system that, if you're unemployed and want work, will consult with your community to design a job for you that pays $15 an hour, plus health benefits. This would eradicate involuntary unemployment, and set a quality floor that no job — public or private — could fall below without simply losing work to the job guarantee program. That's especially important to people of color and other marginalized Americans, usually shoved to the fringes of employment: They're the last to benefit from business cycle upswings in private hiring, and the first to get tossed aside in downturns....

In other words: You have a right to be a slave. You’ll get the job your betters think is fit for you.

So if you were a Senator, and failed in your re-election attempt....becoming unemployed in January....what would be your ‘job guarantee’?

to enshrine the right to a job...

Sounds great... so, since it is a "right", the 'Rats will just propose a Constitutional amendment to instantiate this new "right". Right?

Oh wait, 'Rats don't do Constitutional amendments - they have better ways of changing the Constitution, don't they.

A JOB GUARANTEE? They’re the ones working day and night to kill every job but a government job!

An idea so stupid only a Democrat could advocate it.

They are going to take money out of one person’s pay check to create a make work job for a useless lay about.

And yet these same Democrat will fight Republicans tooth and nail to stop a work requirement for welfare recipients.

Schizophrenic much Democrats?

What work would be done?

Who decides who gets what job?

Suppose you don’t, can we say, you don’t perform the job, and you have to be terminated, as a private employer would do? But can they do this, if it’s a government guaranteed job of some sort; would they have the ability to fire someone who wasn’t performing well?

Everyone will have a pretend job, and a pretend paycheck! Then we can change the name of the country to New Venezuela!

“What does social justice mean? It means work guaranteed, fair wages, decent homes …”
So they admit they are fascists, openly so. The preceding was from a 1935 speech by Benito Mussolini.

The only ones in this country who were guaranteed jobs were black.

There’s a LABOR SHORTAGE, and these jerks are talking about “job guarantees?”

Intelligent Republicans should hammer this during the mid-terms.

Do not expect anyone in The Stupid Party to do the obvious.

4% Unemployment Rate (pretty much full employment) and they are pushing a Job Guarantee Bill?

What am I missing?

Maybe they can offer a Position like the one where the CA DMV Employee Slept on the Job for the last four years and her Boss knew all about it.

I want the job where you lie in a hammock all day and complain that the government isn’t doing enough for you.

Doesn’t sound like the DEMs are distancing themselves from the little female socialist the state of NJ is about to elect to the House.

to pay for all these wonderful ear-tickling proposals, democrats today made it clear that they intend to ‘implement a carbon tax’.

So now we see the true reason behind the push for carbon regulation- massive taxes on everyone to line the pockets of big government, and pay for massive trillion dollar social programs and proposals

Dems know damn well that carbon taxes won’t do a stinking thing to reduce climate change- but you can bet once it’s fully implemented, it will never ever be undone- anytime someone tries to undo it they will be accused of ‘hating the climate’ ‘hating mankind’ etc-

We are just one Democrat election away from having the most massive Eternal FRAUD/SCAM ever foisted on us

In New Jersey, they tried a pilot program called, "Guarantee Jobs New Jersey."

Here's a video showcasing it's success.

Hard working, happy people.

This is an issue which will motivate a large section of America.

Trump is standing at a crossroads now.

Will he be for America, for American workers, and American jobs?

Or will he sell out to China, like everyone else for the entire last generation? Handing the future of America, to Democrats like Sanders?

This issue has real legs.

Don’t blow it Trump.
