I know Minnesota's 7th Congressional District well, having spent many summers there and graduating with my MBA at what is probably the leading university there. Colin Peterson has been the representative there way back since that time.

He may very well be the last Blue Dog Democrat in congress if, indeed, said organization still exists. He was also the first Democrat to publicly call on Al Gore to pack it in following the 2000 election debacle in Florida.

The fact that Trump thinks he can defeated is a very optimistic sign. The Minnesota GOP typically runs a sacrificial lamb type candidate.

I’ll bet we turn the 8th red too..

Nolan retired so it’s a open seat.

Peterson beat Hughes 52.5 to 47.4 in 2016, so it was reasonably close.

Peterson looks to have a 100% pro-life voting record, rated A+ by the NRA, likes hunting and fishing, and he's the ranking member of the Agriculture committee, so he generally represents the voters of his district very well. He'll be tough to beat. Probably the main reason people would have to vote him out is the knowledge that if the Democrats win the house, Pelosi will be speaker.

We’re sure going to give it a good shot! And, Franken’s spot, as well.

Yes, I checked Peterson's recent electoral history and it is getting closer. When I lived there, he was typically winning re-election by 30 point margins or so.

Our country would be in great shape if Peterson types dominated the Democrat Party, but they don't anymore.

Here’s the guy running against Petersen. It would be real nice to get this seat.

In more MN news, Siena poll has Paulsen (R, Hillary district) trailing his rat foe by NINE which is hard to believe.

We need a reliability index for polling firms, who gets it closest to reality. Of course, we know any that do “registered voters” or “adults” polls are dismissed out of hand. Too many FReepers freak out when they see a bad poll without knowing if the firm has a shred of credibility.

They seem legit, though rat leaning (they partner with the Slimes). But I wonder if they have the same issue as Quinnipiac, (less accurate the further you get from CT, it would be NY in Siena’s case)

The sample was 500 likely voters and it’s the first poll in that district that I know of. The margin of error is huge, 9%.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/upshot/elections-poll-mn03-1.html

They list different turnout models, all with the rat ahead. The rat leads by 5 under “The types of people who voted in 2014” which I find unlikely.

They admit “It’s just one poll, though. There are many ways it could be unrepresentative of the district in November.”

Don’t buy this MN poll. PPL in MN think Paulsen is in good shape

Good news, Siena has Will Hurd up 9 in TX. What jives with what you said about TX.

Of the races there, Hurd’s district is the one that concerns me most.

I think it’s Sessions, but either way, all the TX guys are up now.

I only have about 10 seats that are flips (maybe fewer) including Collins in NY, FL27, and McSally’s which is a tossup.

I'd love it if you wrote a big post about the current state of affairs.

They need to make a decision on the Collins seat.

If that means him staying on the ballot and educating voters that he will resign and there will be a special election, so be it. Letting the rats get that seat is not acceptable!!

I just read your article. I noticed a title error RE: The 3 Texas seats

You list Charlie Dent as now being secure and being from TX-15.

Dent of course is from Pennsylvania (Old district 15, new district 7) and is not even running for reelection. New poll out with I think the rat leading by 2 in that district (PA-7), which isn’t that bad considering we’ve had a couple problems with BS allegations against our nominee and the rat having more money.
