Trump Republican running for Florida governor resigns from U.S. House seat

Rep. Ron DeSantis, a conservative Republican running for governor of Florida, has resigned from the House to focus on his campaign, he told House Speaker Paul Ryan in a letter delivered Monday.

DeSantis, 39, has represented Florida’s 6th Congressional District since 2013. He faces Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, a Democrat, in a closely watched race this November.

“As the Republican nominee for governor of Florida, it is clear to me that I will likely miss the vast majority of our remaining session days for this Congress,” DeSantis wrote. “Under these circumstances, it would be inappropriate for me to accept a salary. In order to honor my principles and protect the taxpayer, I officially resign from the House of Representatives effective immediately.”

A spokesman for Ryan confirmed receipt of DeSantis’ letter.

DeSantis’ announcement comes as Gillum, who has seen an influx of support from progressives and national Democratic groups, has opened up an early fundraising lead for the general election. According to Florida campaign finance reports filed Friday, Gillum has raised $4 million since winning the Democratic nomination Aug. 28. DeSantis raised $516,000 during the same period....

Moving from Illinois to Washington state was good, saved us a ton every year on state income tax and property tax.

Moving from WA to Florida shows clearly how well run this republican low tax state is. No state income in FL as well. And the property tax on a similar condo is 1/4th of what we paid in WA state. Yes, from $2800 down to $700/year. And the sales tax is 33% lower. The highways and rest stops in FL are the best I have seen in lower 48 states. The DOL is almost fun to visit and has fast service.

But one has to tolerate lots of old people driving cars erratically in Florida.

Yes I can send the money instead of buying a pack of Michelob Ultra. I am dreading if Gillum somehow wins.

He seems to have a much tougher opponent that we thought a week ago. So many in FL embrace expanded government though it is a “low-tax” state. I don’t see how the resignation will help him at all on Nov. 6.

Ron WILL definitely win. Gillam has nothing to run on. He can’t win statewide in Fl.

Good for him. Giving up a salary shows he’s serious-not gaming the system.

Does this now mean there will be a special election, for his House seat, in November?

What happens to this seat? Anyone know?

Thanks.

This is something a democrat would never do. Risk their seat of power.

Everyone in Fl still needs to vote. If they do then Ron has it in the bag.

Hey! I ain't that bad. ;o( At least they haven't put me on silver alert yet. (I discovered that's a statewide geezer alert for seasoned citizens who are lost, demented and still driving.)

DeSantis’ seat will remain vacant until Jan. 3, when the winner of the race between Democrat Nancy Soderberg and Republican Michael Waltz will be sworn in.

Not to give the commie's of Washington any idea's, but as a native NYer but have been away for 43 yrs. I lived in Brentwood, {11717} Long Island. Still remember the Zip Code.

Growing up in Brentwood, you just knew that the whole town was if you will on the wrong side of the tracks, etc. High School, was approx. 1/3 White, 1/3 Black, 1/3 Puerto Rican, I'm a part of that third group. At the time, it was the largest population of Puerto Rican's, outside of Puerto Rico. We had ARMED, SUFFOLK County cops at the High School, and they were needed, I'm talking 1968-69.

When my parents sold their home (Approx. 1972,) sale of the house was contingent upon REMOVAL OF THE SWIMMING POOL. (16' Ft Wide X 32' Ft. Long, 4' Ft. to 7-1/2' Ft. Deep.) You might think well the new owner's didn't want the hassle of owning a pool. NOPE, they wanted the pool, THEY COULDN'T AFFORD THE TAXES ON THE POOL, in the Ghetto no less.

Oh, and by the way, nothing much has changed,(you might of heard about the MS-13 gang killing in Brentwood) only gotten worse, and taxes last time I checked on that house they were approx. $12,000.00 a year.

Have some relatives out on Long Island, paying property taxes in the amounts of (Deer Park area) $35,000.00 (Thirty-five Thousand Dollar's) to $60,000.00 (Sixty Thousand Dollar's.) Port Jefferson Area / North Shore.

Like you I'm living in Western Washington, Stanwood area, approx 35 miles North of Everett, 50 miles to Seattle

Remember, Rich or Poor I would say approx 90% Percent of homes in Long island, New York, upstate N.Y. as well; heat with oil. Oil tanks are usually approx 400 gal. size. You can count on filling at a minimum three times a year, more if it's colder. Don't even think about electric heat, OUT OF THE QUESTION, price wise. Natural gas is your only other option when available. Same goes for much the North Eastern (New England) States.

Now that is the way you do it. If you cannot work to earn your pay you should resign.

Not like the traitor McCain who would not leave because his ego thought he could take it with him.
