Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is warning Republicans considering challenging President Donald Trump in 2020 that it would be “a waste of time.”

The Kentucky Republican told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday that that it would be “very, very difficult to unseat the president in the primary.”

Republicans, such as retiring Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, are considering challenging Trump in 2020.

McConnell said that “would be a waste of time frankly. But the people who would be likely to challenge the president would not be coming to me for advice.”(continued)

Short of a complete economic collapse.... Trump will win re-election by the biggest landslide since Reagans Re-election.

What the 2020 campaign WILL do is bring out a LARGE slate of potential Democrat candidates, who will tear each other up like a roomful of tomcats. Were I one of those considering being part of that prospect, I would be filled with the worst sort of dread and terror. Oppo research is already running in overdrive, and only will gear up even higher and higher.

But that may be even more entertaining for the spectators than watching “The Purge” or “American Horror Show”.

They are beginning to realize that Trump is far more popular than they are and that people are blaming them for the lack of progress, not Trump. They thought Trump would be a disaster for them, they are starting to finally get it that the disaster comes with not supporting Trump.

In other words, more winning.

The WINING will be massive and unexpected.

I think establishment people like Mitch are phonies, really. They are cynically supporting Trump now because they have read the tea leaves and they realize that they are unelectable if they keep opposing him. However, there are a core of candidates rising who are full throated Trump supporters and at least some of them actually mean it.

It's the tea party all over again, the guys in power pretended to be on board but never were, the young bulls coming in actually meant it but lacked the numbers to make a real impact. This time the new young bulls will add their numbers to the tea partiers still in congress and maybe they'll have enough heads to actually be a major force in driving policy.

If so, that means Trump will have transformed the GOP. May it be so!

I think Mitch has realized that he likes winning and he’s feeling the love of the GOP(finally). He finally doesn’t feel like a hapless loser.

He also knows that he personally will be much better off backing a great conservative POTUS like Trump.

He’s also seen what happened to petty anti-Trump gadflies like Corker and Flake. If Juan McLame hadn’t croaked, he would have been driven out of his senate seat eventually. McLame was ultimately a HATED Arizona senator with a less than 20 percent approval rating last summer.

“Republicans, such as retiring Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, are considering challenging Trump in 2020.”

I think that’s a great idea. Spend more of his money, i.e., flush it down the toilet.

The GOP establishment might be planning to pull a Reagan. Once Bush senior became president the first thing they did was get rid of all the Reagan people (non-establishment people). We must never let that happen again.

I don’t understand all these newcomers on the left who think they can be President. I heard on the radio Jeff Flake is thinking about it. He was elected in 2012. He did agree to that extra Week of FBI investigation so maybe he has some traction withthe left.
