The Democrats can request all they want to, and apparently that is going to be a lot. Trump is under no compulsion to comply, so what are they going to do to him if he does not?
Impeachment may be an option, but “High Crimes and Misdemeanors? An undefined and indefinite phrase at best, it would be a pretty hard case to make even with the most possessed of prosecutors.

I wonder if President Trump is using his tax returns strategically - refuse to release them until forced to do so and then bask in the glory of good news about his financial success and generosity. It would be beautiful to see him forced to show his returns and then we find out he's been giving more to charity that all leftist politicians in the country combined.
