But Democrats are putting on their own version of festival season across the United States.
Enthusiastic crowds are turning out for a number of the candidates who've declared their intention to run for president.
California Senator Kamala Harris, the most prominent female candidate in the group, attracted full houses at her appearances this weekend in the key state of South Carolina. It was the third time she had visited there in her nascent campaign.
Ms Harris' fans include members of her college sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, whose members are influential in the nation's black community.
Another black Senator, Cory Booker of New Jersey, has already been to South Carolina, Iowa, and New Hampshire, where early victories are crucial to winning the nomination.
