Pelosi and McConnell are on an impeachment collision course
The Politico ^ | October 23, 2019 | Burgess Everett and Heather Caygle

Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell are attacking each other in increasingly pointed terms as House Democrats burrow deeper into their impeachment inquiry.

But if the top two congressional leaders can’t find a way to come together soon, the government could plunge into a shutdown and any last hopes for legislating before the presidential election will vanish.

The speaker and Senate majority leader have been trading grievances increasingly over the past several months. Pelosi is lashing McConnell for sitting on House-passed legislation addressing gun violence and ethics reforms; McConnell says Pelosi has done nothing to follow through on her claims that the House won’t come to a “standstill” during impeachment.

“There’s certain things that we have to do. And I don’t have any doubt that we can work with each other,” McConnell said in a brief interview. “Her problem at the moment is internal [in her caucus], not with us, but how to manage that whole process and how can we fit other things in it.”

With Democrats in control of the House, I’d be thrilled if the Senate did nothing between now and November 2020 except confirm judicial and cabinet appointments.

‘House Democrats burrow deeper into their impeachment inquiry.” It is not an “impeachment inquiry.” It is a complete sham and the leftist press is in on the charade.

” the government could plunge into a shutdown and any last hopes for legislating before the presidential election will vanish.”

You mean that Congress won’t be making new laws stealing our freedoms and property for a whole year? The HORROR!

“Impeachment inquiry” is a term they invented to make the people think that they are doing more than conducting a political witch hunt.

AS OF YET (YOU IDIOT MICHELL) THERE IS NO ONGOING LEGAL IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY)! Make the witch put or shut the F up before you allow her or engage her in even discussing it - she and all the dems in the house are breaking the law!

The House and Senate operate independently, so Mitch McConnell has no control over anything Nancy Pelosi says or does.

McConnell shut just shut her down right now,

The Senate will not entertain any proceedings that originated in Partisan Secret Testimony.

BURN IT DOWN. I hope they shut down the whole town. However, I bet Trump won’t Barrycade the WWII Memorial if there is a government shutdown, like Oblabla did.

Mitch says....“Her problem at the moment is internal [in her caucus], not with us, but how to manage that whole process and how can we fit other things in it.”

No her problem is her house is breaking the laws surrounding impeachment (in that is what they want to do and are focused in doing and spending their time on it...they are wasting their time because they are breaking the law in the way they are going about it and she needs to be called out on that by all repubs loud and clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a open air ‘coup’ going on to taint the public opinion and that needs to cease and desist! and either impeach by the rules or not!!!!!!

And Mitch and the house repubs aren’t forcing the issue strongly enough! They are letting them win and ply their their games! Sure they are hurting themselves and shooting themselves in the foot with some BUT...at some point you need to piss on a fire to finally put it out as a last measure to stink it up!

-- ... Mitch McConnell has no control over anything Nancy Pelosi says or does. --

Not directly, but the Senate routinely telegraphs what measures will be DOA; and likewise the House does the same to/for the Senate.

I don't think Pelosi responds to rational argument or reasoned debate, so any sort of telegraphing with regard to the impeachment sham won't affect what the House does. It might affect public perception.

I really don’t know who is the worst of the two. McConnell doesn’t seem at all interested in putting up a fight against the impeachment garbage and the Republicans have to count on him to fight it as they don’t have the power he has. But he doesn’t seem to understand his power or what he’s supposed to do with it. “I’ll have to hold a trial in the Senate” blah blah blah....Horse hockey - he doesn’t have to do anything except tell the demonrats to get stuffed!

Thank goodness we saw some guts on display today with the few Republicans willing to make a push at the closed door coup hearings. It should have been all of the Republicans. I only recognized two of them - Gaetz and Scalise - the rest were unfamiliar to me.

I still believe that McConnell is secretly on the side of the democrats. He may try to give some appearance otherwise at times. But if you really pay attention to what he does and says then I think he is a democrat at heart. And the democrats probably have the goods on him from somewhere in time.

McConnell should hold a press conference and alert the media that Pelosi is setting the terms for how the Senate will handle any impeachment referral. As Republicans in the House are constrained from participating, to the same extent, so will democrat senators.

No they aren’t

Unless Pelosi calls for a formal inquiry vote

Then she will have sunlight shine on the process

They won’t want that

It’s just Kabuki theatre or fan dance

Them and the media

Maybe to thwart Barr

Maybe
