The McCain-Feingold assault on our First Amendment rights was passed by a Republican-controlled Congress, signed into law by a Republican President, and affirmed by a Republican-controlled Supreme Court.

The Free Republic is first and foremost a forum to advance conservative ideals and not the Republican Party agenda. The two causes are (sadly) often on wildly divergent paths.

So please, put down your GOP pom poms.

I submit that ideas are more important than party loyalty.

I am totally disgusted. Why the he!! did President Bush sign this wretched thing? Why did the Congress pass it? (The Senate is more understanding considering Hatch, Spectre, and the other RINOS there, what to speak of McCain.)

Sick to my stomach, I am.

I like what Rush said today. Sodomy is a protected right, free speech isn't. He's wondering if it is legal for candidates to get sodomized 30 or 60 days before an election...?

Now you're going to draw the ire of the Bushbots. Woe unto you if you're haled up before the Inquisition, condemned as a heretic!

Hit your knees, infidel, and pray the Prayer of Penitence:

Republicans can do no wrong.
Republicans can do no wrong.
Republicans can do no wrong.

All right, then...we'll all pick up our Dem pom-poms and root for Howard Dean and Hillary.

Would that satisfy Your Majesty?

Let me help you out.

The McCain-Feingold assault on our First Amendment rights was passed by a nominallyRepublican-controlled Congress, signed into law by a Republican President, and affirmed by a in name onlyRepublican-controlled Supreme Court.

With all due respect, get bent, ambrose.

You are free to ignore posts that support the GOP, just like most of us ignored your McClintock rantings.

It's up to Jim Robinson to conduct purges, not you.

I propose everyone who reads this should email President Bush and other appropriate Congresscritters and tell them our opinion, and that if they want us to continue to vote Republican, they should act like conservatives and protect the Constitution.

I don't propose sitting out the election or voting for protest candidates.

What do you think could/should be done?

Ideas, like facts, can be stubborn things. They can also be really stupid things that go clunk in the night and lead people to vote for scammers and borderline nuts - the initials "HB" and "PB" come to mind...

I think it may be prudent to withhold our support to the Congresscritters who have betrayed us. On the other hand, the Islamofascist threat is too real, and Dean is too nutty, to even consider being less than 100% in support of the President. We won't be able to argue about the merits of McCain-Feingold if the Islamofascists and their enablers in the West have their way.

Maybe it was a bluff in a game of TeXas Hold'em that went bad.

I didn't like it when Bush signed this idiotic unconstitutional bill. There are other things I don't like either.

On the other hand there are many things about Bush that I do like. The reality is that I will vote for Bush. The alternatives are unthinkable to me.

Please tell us what other electable candidate you would prefer to support.

I admit, I am not 100% thrilled with the current GOP's spending agenda. But some blame Bush outright when it wasn't Bush that created the pork barrelling.

He has to play the gov spending game in order to negotiate support for issues that need to be passed. Is he really supportive of large gov spending? We may not know while he is in office.

Will he be the best choice while in office? Absolutely.

We will never get the gov spending/pork barrelling out of office until we, the citizens, privatize it on our own.
