It sounded serious to me, explosives that could become unstable around softball sized balls of Weapons grade Plutonium would bring on the pucker factor for me :-)

Most of the nukes I worked on had so many safety features that I am not sure they would have worked if they wanted them to.
Remember the explosives inside an armor piercing high explosive shell such as explosive d the navy use to use in its shells would stand the shock of being fired and hitting the armor of another ship without going off. The nuke HE is less sensitive than that.
Its been a long time but it seems that we actually used tape to clean up chunks of explosive.
