A majority of them were appointed by Republican governors, btw -- George Deukmejian, and "RINO" Pete Wilson.

Does this mean the Mayor will stop issuing these licenses?

The California Supreme Court is actually the one bright spot of sanity in state government.

I wonder when we are going to start seeing jail for the offenders including two legislators who took part in "sham marriage" ceremonies, and one legislator who performed a number of those ceremonies. These legislators all took an oath to uphold California law.

Thanks for the news and the link. Somebody is feeling heat.

Now if the people can prevail to prevent the creation of a parallel institution of "civil union" that is inimical to the values maintained via traditional marriage, it'll really be a good sign.

You're correct in that. Actually, there are some outstanding people on the State Supreme Ct. Remember, before five years of Gray Davis, Republicans had the governor's office for the previous 16 years.

So far, the California Supreme Court seems to me have done it just right. First, a few days ago, they said -- "we're not going to do something today -- give us a little time to read and study." [And a lot on this thread said, "Woe, the sky is falling."] Today, they said -- "Let's stop this nonsense for now -- it doesn't look very legal -- but we won't rule finally until we have full briefs and argument." That's how a judicious court should act. What's not to like??

The Massachusetts compromise tentatively agreed upon today enshrines civil unions in the state constitution:

Massachusetts lawmakers gave preliminary approval Thursday to a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage but allow civil unions.

Funny you should mention that. I was in New Orleans for Mardi Gras and the crowds were smaller than expected. This was stated throughout the week I was there by everyone from hucksters on the street to the club owners up and down Bourbon Street. Most people tried to say the weather kept them away (it rained the last 3 days but not all day). I was pretty disappionted...looks like Rio next year!

Care to retract that hideous "Village People" CA Supreme Court graphic now?

Nope. Next question?

Since when did bitching from a position of complete ignorance become a conservative virtue?

Big deal. Their not upholding state law. Their saying stop it while we see if we can find a way to get around the law.

CA *used* to have left-wing kooks on its Supreme Court... but the voters ran those judges out of office back in 1986..

If California no longer has left-wing kooks on its Supreme Court, how is it that challenges to California's anti-Second Amendment laws go nowhere in this judiciary? Answer me that.

I wonder if Rosie was ever pissed that she and her girl had to fly all the way out to California, when the City of New Paltz in upstate NY was hooking up lesbos there...

Rosie always looks P.O'ed about something nowadays.
