I'd be interested in a Spain ping list too. I also have fond memories of that country, and even rode the AVE train from Atocha to Santa Justa. I've considered going back to study Spanish again, but with the Iraq vitriol sputtered by our European "allies", I had a hard time thinking I would be much welcome. Perhaps that was a hasty judgement (since it sounds like you are there, and experiencing no ill-will).

I figured the Spanish were just exercising a little post-colonial angst with the tiny island (sort of a mini-Falklands), but I do recall there being concern with the number of north Africans coming into the country. I believe when I was there, there was a riot or a number of hate-crime beatings in Almeria or Alicante (probably Almeria).
