Like Al Gore, who donated a miserly $353 to charity as vice president in 1997, John Kerry may be a serial cheapskate.

During the early 1990s, with no apparent presidential aspirations, Kerry contributed the following amounts: $0 in 1991; $820, 1992; $175, 1993; $2,039, 1994; and $0, 1995. Last year, however, after media attention, he gave $43,735.

C'mon ... he was too busy working for the little guy, and criticizing the big, greedy corporations. He didn't have time to give to charities.

Besides, most of the REAL charities out there, the people who actually HELP others (rather than study them, "stand in solidarity with them" or "identify with them"), are run by right-wing religious fanatics.

I discussed this very issue with my accountant this year who indicated that most people in my bracket were claiming in the range of 2 to 5% of their income in charitable donations. This is, however, one of those areas in which I am slow to criticize and it falls into my "none of my business" column. However, noting the rise in donations in the election cycle is rather nauseating for JFK.

Ugh. Ain't that the truth. But as Rush says, it's all about feelings. It's more important to "feel for the needy" than to actually do anything personally to help them.

For a man of his wealth, failure to give charitably is a grave sin of omission.

I was watching a great episode of Bishop Fulton Sheen's old TV series, "Life is Worth Living" this past weekend. He did a wonderful job of analyzing the morality of various economic systems. The portion relevant to this issue is the following. He said, "once a man has enough wealth to secure the well-being of his family (their needs, not wants) immediately and reasonably into the future, the rest of his wealth does not belong to him." It's a point that's hard to dispute.

In MA you can voluntarily pay a higher tax rate. The tax form makes it very easy for you to do so.

John F'n Kerry trumpets the fact that the rich don't pay their fair share. Yet when he could easily pay more of his fair share, he doesn't. Typical liberal HYPOCRITE.

I think this is damning and we should make others aware of it!
