Alicia Davis may be America's first state-funded defense attorney for parents accused of abuse by the same state's own child protective services. She assumes office this week as Utah's director of the Office of Child Welfare Parental Defense.

The local press has already dubbed Davis "the Parent Czar," but skeptics wonder if she can effectively protect parental rights. Some wonder whether her position — apparently created as a last minute addition to a bill — is a compromise that won't work?

At least this might be a sign that PC antifamily campaign is slowing down.

Geez, is it all over? Now they are getting both sides to join the government. Hey, why doesn't the government butt out so the parents can take care of their own children?

At the rate the USA is going with so many drug abusers it's getting harder to find responsible, sober and clean parents. Babies having babies. Drug abusers are disgusting excuses for humans.

One of the reasons is parents have no control over their children. The government has seen to that.

I've heard from differnt people that Utah has a high rate of teenage runaways, one of the highest per-capita in the country. This article seems to confirm that. A number of them find their way to neighboring Nevada, which has a very individualistic, mind-your-own-business culture. One of the more surprising things about the gaming industry is the number of Mormons who work for it. (The Mormon Church forbids gambling, but not working for a gambling establishment)

Yes true but I've seen plenty of uninvolved parents who allow their kids free reign. Allow them to come in way past legal curfews(sp?), allow their under age girls to dress extremely provocatively, to school too! Yet the minute an authority figure informs one of these parents that their kid has stepped out of bounds the parent responds with, "not my baby"
