With the ban on assault weapons set to expire in September, 10 years after it was enacted by Congress, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola) will again try to bring the gun control issue to the forefront during a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Boston next week

McCarthy, who became a national advocate for tougher firearms laws after her husband was killed and son injured by a gunman on the Long Island Rail Road in 1993, said she hopes the speech stirs the American public to pressure Congress to pass another 10-year ban

I think the RAT strategy here is to get Bush to sign a new AWB, which will result in millions of gunowners sitting out the election or voting third (second?) party.

The democrats have finally figured out that gun control is a losing issue for them throughout most of the country, so their strategy is to have the guys at the top of ticket remain silent on the issue, while the gun-grabbing trolls at the lower levels push an anti-gun agenda.

It'll never get past the House. I think last time Delay talked about the AWB, he said it is 20-30 votes short of the number needed to pass.

I'd like to see this as well. Unless Kerry disavows her, and he can't afford to, that will be the message that the voters take away from the convention no matter how carefully he tries to be to stay ambiguous on the issue.

Excellent!

The Dims cant help themselves. Featuring scary strident gun grabbers may help pile up more useless votes for Kerry in Vermont, but will cost him big time in battleground states such as WV, PA, & OH, & MI.

Why not trot Rosie O'Donut out there like you did at the Million Moron March? Worked great for you then, didn't it?

hehehehehehehe!

Come to think of it, everything Rosie touches turns to s**t. You've got the Moron March, the Boy George Broadway fiasco, the Rosie magazine debacle, she showed up at Martha Stewart's trial and a juror was offended (I really like that one!). If I didn't know any better I'd say that woman's got a bad case of Karma on her hands.

Great! Let the RATs throw another rant about gun control and see how many "undecideds" they lose. They know it's a loser issue for them, but their leftist base demands lip service (not the monica kind), so they will have to publicly take the losing side on a hot-button issue, and the RAT lapdog media will play it for all it's worth, obtusely refusing to realize they're hurting their own chosen candidate.

This woman is a blithering idiot. When are they going to ban fence post (which was used to murder my son), screwdrivers, scissors, knives, hammers, bricks, bats, tire irons, bath tubs or hand & feet?????????? All have been used to kill many times over.

McCarthy, who became a national advocate for tougher firearms laws

Waiting for my Ruger Vaquero Baisley .357 for a SASS shoot.

The Dems have already lost this fight. Now they'll just lose more votes over it.

Which is hardly a safe margin. 30/435 is less than 7 %, and 20/435 is just over 4.5 %

I sent this to my local paper and it was printed. A dem got real mad at it and bashed it calling it a lie and said that John Kerry was a lifelong hunter. You and anyone here can copy this, change a couple of words, and send it to your local papers. I'd like to see John Kerry associated with .30-30 ban.

John Kerry has been traveling the country saying that he is a hunter and respects the Second Amendment. That is a joke, right? Who does he think he is fooling? Mr. Kerry's 20-year record in the senate exposes his dishonesty when he says he supports hunting.

Mr. Kerry voted for his Massachusetts colleague Ted Kennedy's Senate Amendment - SAMDT.2619. Even 12 Democrats, including liberals Pat Leahy and Tom Daschle, voted against this extremist infringement on our rights.

The bill bans almost all centerfire rifle ammunition that is considered "armored piercing bullets." The bill's definition of "armored piercing bullet" is whatever the Attorney General (Likely a Janet Reno clone under a Kerry presidency) decides it is.

Mr. Kennedy specially targeted the .30-30 round in a CSPAN speech. (Source: Page S1634-S1639 Congressional Record.) The .30-30 is one of America's most popular deer-hunting rounds. Since another hunting round, the .30-06, is more powerful than the .30-30, we would see that banned as well.

Mr. Kerry cannot vote for this bill and say that he supports hunting or the Second Amendment.

I was born at night, but not last night. John Kerry is a "Ted Kennedy" wolf in sheep's clothing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Senator Kerry's voting record alone is enough to sink him in any national election.

Ban 30-30 ammo?! In Feinstein's dreams!

I still wouldn't worry about it. Hastert and Delay have said it isn't going to come up for a vote regardless of what the Democrats and Senate want. The issue is DOA as far as the House leadership is concerned.
