CBS 'HOAXER' BROKER
New York Post ^ | 9/22/04 | DON KAPLAN

Posted on 09/22/2004 6:50:26 AM PDT by kattracks

September 22, 2004 -- The "60 Minutes" producer on CBS's story that used phony National Guard documents is the subject of an internal investigation for arranging contact between the network's source and a top aide to John Kerry, officials said yesterday. It is believed that veteran producer Mary Mapes facilitated a phone call between Bill Burkett, a former Texas Army National Guard officer who supplied the Guard documents to CBS, and Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart.

The move would be a clear breach of ethics that could cost Mapes her job.

Lee said the general managers of CBS stations across the country have been bombarded with complaints from viewers since the initial "60 Minutes" telecast.

"I've heard from affiliates from coast to coast and almost without exception we have taken a real roasting [from viewers] throughout this whole process," he said.

[snip]

Meanwhile, a Post photographer snapped Rather leaving his Upper East Side home yesterday flanked by two security guards. One was a supervisor for CBS security and the other was a retired Rikers Island corrections officer. A CBS spokeswoman bristled when asked about them.

"Mr. Rather has no bodyguards," snapped Rather's spokeswoman, Kim Akhtar, after eyeballing the pictures. "There have been absolutely no threats against him."

[snip]

Rather's colleague, "60 Minutes" commentator Andy Rooney, defended the anchor yesterday dur- ing an appearance on Don Imus' radio show.

"He gives the impression of falseness sometimes that does not exist in his character," said Rooney. "I think he is a first-class guy, a good guy and an honest guy. And yet, there is something about the way he behaves sometimes that makes people suspicious of him, and it's too bad." http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/29009.htm

At this point, one has to wonder if they are protecting him from himself.

And yet, there is something about the way he behaves sometimes that makes people suspicious of him.

Dan Rather is becoming Richard Nixon. It's like the Picture of Dorian Grey.

Folks

The media is sniffing blood on the CBS thing. Well..at least NBC is. I've flipped on the Today show twice in the last two days and Matt Lauer is beating this one for all it's worth, and is actually asking halfway decent and pertinent questions.

I know they are doing it to damage a competitor, but all I have to say is, you go Matt.

Not anymore. They're doing it to salvage broadcast news.

Can you imagine what will happen the next time someone tries to break a story with unnamed sources? The perp will laugh in their faces, even if guilty.

THE DOCUMENT ISSUE IS DEALT WITH, FINISH THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN FOR dnCBS... THESE ARE THE ISSUES THAT SHOULD BE IN THE PRESS EVERYWHERE AND IT WILL FINISH dnCBS

The other issues expose HOW THE MEDIA WING OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY ACTUALLY WORKS! CBS' "gold standard" included:

1. The widow and son were IGNORED
2. Document experts were IGNORED
3. Hodges was MISLED
4. The old secretary was NOT INTERVIEWED until afterward
5. Staudt, who had his character attacked in one memo, was never contacted
6. The opinions of the experts were MISREPRESENTED
7. The swift boat veterans were MALIGNED
8. George Bush's roomate DURING HIS GUARD YEARS, who AGREED TO SPEAK TO THEM WAS TURNED DOWN BECAUSE HE WAS TOO "PRO BUSH"...

And the list goes on. Fact is, this was a HIT PIECE ON BUSH. And just because dnCBS owns up to fake documents does NOT CLEAR THEIR PROPAGANDA / DNC REPORTING!!

I know one of his new freeper-designated names should be

Dan Milhouse Rather.

I suspect if one really wants to get Rather's goat the best, it is via the parellel to Nixson--the "its not the crime its the coverup--Dan" and all references to Rather parroting the worst of Nixon characteristics would really get under his hyper-arrogant skin.

I believe her. These words come from a reliable source: would anyone at CBS lie to us?

What else is there to talk about? The whole reason CBS and the JFKerry campaign did this story was to respond to the Swift Boats Vets.

Anybody really think they want to ask JFKerry what the .ell were you doing in Paris????

No they would prefer to keep this story alive.

Oh! Please! What planet does Andy Rooney live on?......or is it just senility? Dan is as smarmy as they come and has been for years. Only an idiot would say that this guy isn't biased as h**l! Honest? I think not!

Boo Hoo, perhaps it is time for Andy to go get his embalming fluid IV started. He's sounding kind of weak.

This about the guy who had the following conversation with Bill O'Reilly

BILL O'REILLY: And I want to ask you flat out. Do you think President Clinton's an honest man?

DAN RATHER: Yes, I think he's an honest man.

O'REILLY: Do you really?

RATHER: I think -- I do. I think he's an honest man.

O'REILLY: Even when he lied to Jim Lehrer's face about the (unintelligible)?

RATHER: Listen, who among us have not lied about something?

O'REILLY: Well, I didn't lie to anybody's face on national television. I don't think you have. Have you?

RATHER: I don't think I ever have. I hope I never have. But look, it's one thing.

O'REILLY: How can you say he's an honest guy, then?

RATHER: Well, because I think he is. I think at core, he's an honest person. I know that you have a different view. I know that you consider it sort of astonishing anybody would say so. But I think you can be an honest person and lie about any number of things.

It all makes sense in their special little Bizarro world
