'60 Minutes' source has a long history of disparaging Bush
Washington Post ^ | 9-22-04

The man CBS News touted as the "unimpeachable source" of explosive documents about President Bush's National Guard service turns out to be a former Guard officer who has denounced Bush as a liar with "demonic personality shortcomings."

Over the past three years, retired Lt. Col. Bill Burkett has given dozens of newspaper and television interviews accusing the president and his aides of destroying documents and stealing elections. In e-mail messages to an Internet chat group for Texas Democrats, he has also said that the "Bush team" sent "goons" to intimidate him at his ranch in Baird, Texas.

"They can go to hell," the retired officer, 55, wrote in a March 29 posting. "I'll continue to defend the freedom of this nation -- not the liars who have wrested its helm."

Burkett's allegations against Bush and leaders of the Texas National Guard were featured prominently in a controversial book, "Bush's War for Re- election," by a former reporter, James Moore, that was published in February. The book led to Burkett's briefly becoming a TV talk-show celebrity, with his allegations of corruption and favoritism in the National Guard.

When CBS was going to release that statement last week, I signed up to receive news emails from them. I just received this alert from CBS News. Note how they characterize the documents.

CBS News has named former Attorney General Dick Thornburgh and ex-Associated Press President Lou Boccardi to independently review "60 Minutes Wednesday's" use of memos purportedly written by President Bush's National Guard commander.

"Puportedly written by"?? It sounds like they have reverted back to their position last week!

THE DOCUMENT ISSUE IS DEALT WITH, FINISH THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN FOR dnCBS... THESE ARE THE ISSUES THAT SHOULD BE IN THE PRESS EVERYWHERE AND IT WILL FINISH dnCBS

The other issues expose HOW THE MEDIA WING OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY ACTUALLY WORKS! CBS' "gold standard" included:

1. The widow and son were IGNORED
2. Document experts were IGNORED
3. Hodges was MISLED
4. The old secretary was NOT INTERVIEWED until afterward
5. Staudt, who had his character attacked in one memo, was NEVER CONTACTED, even after Rathergate started
6. The opinions of the experts were MISREPRESENTED
7. The swift boat veterans were MALIGNED
8. George Bush's roomate DURING HIS GUARD YEARS, who AGREED TO SPEAK TO THEM WAS TURNED DOWN BECAUSE HE WAS TOO "PRO BUSH"...
9. CBS CONTACTED A DEMOCRAT PARTISAN, Burkett, looking for the documents, Burkett did not call dnCBS

And the list goes on. Fact is, this was a HIT PIECE ON BUSH. And just because dnCBS owns up to fake documents does NOT CLEAR THEIR PROPAGANDA / DNC REPORTING!!

GREAT Graphic about the MSM and DNC Collusion

Seems appropriate that Burkett raises Simmethal bulls at his ranch near Baird...

In fact, if you feel like sending him a note, you can find his e-mail address under "cattle for sale:"

he saved himself from death by taking a dose of cattle penicillin that turned out to be three times the correct dosage for his body weight.

The disease that he imagines that he had was, as I recall, amoebic encephilitis.

Penicillin would only be effective for a bacterial infection. Amoeba's are procaryote cells (ie, with a nucleus), just like us, bacteria are not.

Perhaps some FReeper biology geeks can confirm this.

I cannot find the original article where she said she knew nothing about Bush's service, just that there were spoiled privileged kids in the unit..Then she became an expert on Bush's service.

I hear ya. There can be no question, the Post goes out of its way to cast Bush in a negative light. Even their Sunday Business section gets in weekly digs. For them to sanctimoniously characterize CBS as biased is, well, simply, er.....I give up, words fail me.

The Kerry Kampaign and CBS ought to be real concerned about Burkett. He strikes me as unstable and the type who could blurt out some real damaging stuff. Give him time.

That's why Lawyer Van Os has referred him to other attorneys to sue CBS for "defamation of character." Then Burkett's attorney can tell him not to make a peep to the media during the pre-trial and trial phase lest he jeopardize his case. CBS will stall on a civil trial as long as possible, again to keep Burkett quiet, then on the eve of the trial, will suddenly settle with Burkett. Part of the settlement, of course, will be Burkett's silence. CBS is smart: It will use perfectly legal, "legitimate" means to, in effect, pay Burkett off.

Good point, Burkett may transfer some of his hatred from President Bush to his new enemies at CBS. When he does, it will be good to know that he's "unimpeachable".
