CBS spokeswoman Kelli Edwards, asked about Mapes' actions, said: "It's obviously against CBS News standards and those of every other reputable news organization to be associated with any political agenda."

So you are admitting that taking part in a fundraiser, as Rather did, was against your standards? Then why is he still employed? CBS is demonstrably not a reputable news organization. For the last several days our noses have been rubbed in that.

Burkett's allegations against Bush and leaders of the Texas National Guard were featured prominently in a controversial book, "Bush's War for Re- election," by a former reporter, James Moore, that was published in February....

Moore was one of Burkett's staunchest defenders until the "60 Minutes" program, but said Monday that he no longer knew whether to believe him. "I've got so caught up in the white noise of political skullduggery that I no longer trust anything anyone tells me," Moore said.

Is James Moore going to pull his book, since it was based on Burkett's lies? I don't think so.

Speaking of fund raising, here's part of what Disengenuous Dan, the star attraction at the Democratic event, said:

-------------------

Rather said yesterday that he hadn't realized beforehand that the event was a fundraiser. "I didn't ask the question, and I should have," he said in an interview. "I take full responsibility for it. I'm responsible and I'm accountable."

But the Texas native stopped short of calling his appearance a mistake or saying he would not have attended had he known in advance that he was being used to raise money.
