It's getting close to the election and I've noticed that the phone polls are getting more and more frequent at the randog household. I'm on some "this guy doesn't hang up on pollsters" list and I get polls ranging from local to national elections.
Like many of you, I've noticed that the national polls are all over the map. Last week we saw polls with a 10-point difference on the presidential race. There have been much discussion here at FR on the possible causes and I'd like to throw out my theory: the phone polls are being freeped just like the internet polls.
I was just perusing a post about a phone poll another freeper had just received when the dogphone rang. I answered and it was some group (never heard of them before) asking if I would take some time to answer their poll. I replied that I would love to and the questions began:
If the election were held today, who would you vote for: Republican George Bush, Democrat John Querry, or Independent Ralph Nader
George Bush.
After seeing George Bush's ads on TV, are you more or less likely to vote for him?
More likely.
After seeing John Querry's ads on TV, are you more or less likely to vote for him?
Less likely.
If the election for congressmen were held today would you vote a straight Republican ticket, a mixed Republican and Democrat ticket, or a straight Democrat ticket?
Straight Republican.
How did you vote in the last congressional election--straight Republican ticket, a mixed Republican and Democrat ticket, or a straight Democrat ticket?
Straight Democrat
Which party are you a member of--Republican, Democrat, Independent, or something else?
Democrat.
Do you consider yourself a conservative or a liberal?
Liberal.
Which ethnic group are you a part of--Caucasian, African American, Hispanic, Asian, or other?
Hispanic.
The poll went on, but you get the point--I freeped it "but good". My question to you fellow freepers is: do you think the national phone polls are being freeped just as the internet polls are? Perhaps by both sides? Are there enough of us out there to be putting a kink in their statistics or are we weeded out as "statistical anomolies"?
'Preciate the comments.
You were not polled. You were subject to a Campaign commercial. A lot of the illegal 527 groups a doing this push poll things. They call up and claim to be conducting a poll then ask a bunch of leading questions designed to push you to the conclusion that the group wants you to hold. Anyone in your home a Union member? Most of the polls like this they are doing here in Minnesota the contact lists are being provided by the Labor Unions to the State Democrat party.
Do you find the questions he listed in this poll leading?
If the election where held today, tomorrow, next week...two weeks ago...I would vote for George W. Bush!
I didn't find the questions leading. I got the impression that they were trying to find out whose advertising was doing the better job.
No, but when the group is some organization you have never heard off, it is not a opinion poll.
If you really want to Freep it, you would answer "Ralph Nader". It couldn't hurt to get him on more ballots. I would like to see his numbers over 5%. Unfortunately, I have never been polled.
He's going to be slinging his bull every minute from now to the election.
Easy--he got the closest numbers in the last prez election. Whoever gets closest this time gets the brass ring for the next 4 years.
Hey, I have a bridge to sell you.
