Have War Critics Even Read the Duelfer Report? The Saddam regime was an imminent threat
Wall Street Journal ^ | October 14, 2004 | RICHARD SPERTZEL

Posted on 10/14/2004 5:37:49 AM PDT by OESY

After the release of the Iraq Survey Group's Duelfer report, the headlines blazed "No WMD Found." ...This reflects the notion that Iraq was only a threat if it had military munitions filled with WMD. The claim "Iraq was not an imminent threat" was also expounded by pundits that seemingly crawled out of the woodwork as well as those opposed to President Bush. But have these individuals read carefully the report...?

While no facilities were found producing chemical or biological agents on a large scale, many clandestine laboratories operating under the Iraqi Intelligence Services were found to be engaged in small-scale production of chemical nerve agents, sulfur mustard, nitrogen mustard, ricin, aflatoxin, and other unspecified biological agents. These laboratories were also evaluating whether various poisons would change the texture, smell or appearance of foodstuffs. These aspects of the ISG report have been ignored by the pundits and press....

The chemical section reports that the M16 Directorate "had a plan to produce and weaponize nitrogen mustard in rifle grenades and a plan to bottle sarin and sulfur mustard.... The major threat posed by Iraq, in my opinion, was the support it gave to terrorists in general, and its own terrorist activity....

As for the U.N. inspection system preventing such R&D, why did Iraq not declare these clandestine laboratories to Unscom and Unmovic and why did these inspection agencies not discover these laboratories? Might it have been that there were multiple informants working inside Unscom and Unmovic that kept the Iraqi Intelligence Service informed as to what sites were to be inspected? ...In late 2002 and early 2003, equipment and materials were removed from several sites 24 hours before U.N. inspections....

Furthermore, sanctions were rapidly eroding.... Inspections can not be effective without the full support of the U.N. Security Council....

Sadly liberal America is lost it refuses to digest information and come to its own conclusions. It relies on spoon feeding from those that it holds in high regard. I think Bill Clinton should be called to account based on the 9/11 comission findings. I think smart America realizes now that all talk and no action gets you 9/11

Exactly. The more their ideas fail, the less thinking they want to do. Kerry RELIES on this, and feeds them sophistry.

The oil for food scam is HUGE and there is NOTHING in the MSM about it.

If the MSM in this country did their job, the US would be jumpin' out of the UN quicker than a kitty on a hot tin roof!

Would it have been too much to ask the President to AT LEAST MENTION THIS ONCE DURING THE DEBATES??????

This is a slightly important fact for the American people to know, no? Shouldn't this be the centerpiece of the Bush stump piece? Shouldn't Cheney, Rice, Rumsfield, Powell, Laura, Jenny and Barbara be on every news show right now proclaiming this from the rooftops?

Come on, White House, if you don't stand up for yourself the media certainly won't do it for you!

This needs to be spread around the country ASAP.

The media is hiding the truth for political purposes and I'm more concerned with our troops getting a much needed morale boost.

If they heard that the people back home were finally being told the truth it would be great.

Not to worry! John sKerry has a "plan" to round up all the stray nuclear material worldwide in just 4 short years! Nevermind that the folks who made the stuff don't even know where all of it is. Along with traitor, we need to add magician to his long list of "talents"......

I've been trying to get this story out and no one believes it.

We need to get this story out.

It looks like you have some kind of ping list going.

Thanks for this post, OESY. Thanks for the ping, RBA. The MSM will always (and ONLY)highlight the part that's the most 'damning' for Bush - no surprise there. :(

PING!
