Kerry strategy: Don't repeat Gore mistakes

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. John Kerry has a simple strategy if the presidential race is in doubt on Nov. 3, the day after the election: Do not repeat Al Gore's mistakes. Unlike the former vice president, who lost a recount fight and the 2000 election, Kerry will be quick to declare victory on election night and begin defending it. He also will be prepared to name a national security team before knowing whether he's secured the presidency.

[snip]

The prospects for another contested election grow with every poll showing the race neck and neck.

Gore prematurely conceded the 2000 race to George W. Bush, then had to retract his concession after aides said Florida wasn't lost. He never declared victory, an omission Kerry's advisers — many of whom worked for Gore — now believe created a sense of inevitability in voters' minds about Bush's presidency.

Gore didn't plan for the legal showdown, though few could have predicted it before Election Day. And he watched as Bush seized political advantage during the 36-day recount by publicly discussing a transition to the White House.

Not this time, promise Kerry's advisers. If there is doubt about the results, they will fight without delay.

Six so-called "SWAT teams" of lawyers and political operatives will be situated around the country with fueled-up jets awaiting Kerry's orders to speed to a battleground state. The teams have been told to be ready to fly on the evening of the election to begin mounting legal and political fights. No team will be more than an hour from a battleground.

A coup attempt?

Don't put it past these guys. They have been violent already, have the backing of powerful billionaires meeting at secret hideaways in Colorado, and thousands of lawyers ready to go.

The Democrats have decided they'll steal an election rather than play by the rules. That's their pledge for uniting the country under John F*ckin' over the next four years: Leave No Lawyer Behind!

How to steal an election, declare yourself the winner:

He never declared victory, an omission Kerry's advisers — many of whom worked for Gore — now believe created a sense of inevitability in voters' minds about Bush's presidency.

I don't. But in order to have a coup, they'd need the military behind them. Fat chance on that. Besides, the Democrats pride themselves on having no personal firearms. We, on the other hand, tend to be loaded for bear.

In other words, it'd be a damned short coup. The shortest on record, I'd say.

I hope everyone realizes that sKerry will do these things no matter what the results are. As far as he is concerned, he is the president and no stupid little thing like an election is going to keep him from his destiny. This guy is creepy scary.

Do not repeat Al Gore's mistakes.

Heavens no!!!!

He needs to be self minded and original with his mistakes!

I, personally, think he has been.

It started during "Enron" -- Dems. think they have the ammunition to destroy President Bush and then it backfires on them, leaving President Bush stronger and their party ever increasmingly in shambles.

When I get discouraged I think of the Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell's invocation at the inaugural and remember that "an angel directs this whirlwind."

What the Democrats are *guaranteeing* by their publicly proclaiming their desire to litigate their way into the presidency is the highest Republican turnout EVER. Thank you Kerry, Edwards, Wholey, Cahill et al. for motivating the Republican base in a way that President Bush, Vice President Cheney and even Karl Rove couldn't even dream of equalling!

Declaring victory after a loss would fit right in with Kerry's style of being 180 degrees out of phase with the truth.

He never declared victory, an omission Kerry's advisers — many of whom worked for Gore — now believe created a sense of inevitability in voters' minds about Bush's presidency.

He didn't declare because he knew that he lost, and instead most likely knew that he was trying to steal an election. The 2000 election fiasco was simply a continuation of the lawlessness that took place during the Clinton Administration years. The "rules are for suckers" crowd tried to pull a fast one, but thankfully failed.
