Inqlings | Reporter quits at WHYY over angry message
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 11/30/2004 | Michael Klein

A voice-mail message left last week at the Virginia office of Laptoplobbyist.com, a conservative Internet site, went like this:

"Hi, my name is Rachel, and my telephone number is... I wanted to tell you that you're evil, horrible people. You're awful people. You represent horrible ideas. God hates you and he wants to kill your children. You should all burn in hell. Bye."

Rachel is Rachel Buchman, 25, a regular reader of Laptoplobbyist's e-mail newsletter - and a reporter with public radio station WHYY-FM (90.9) for about three years. And she left her office number at WHYY in the message last Tuesday.

Your tax dollars at work. Public Radio would go bankrupt faster than air america if they didn't get government dollars and had to earn their own keep.

Dang. You beat me to it. Read this this morning in the Inquirer hard copy. Yes, yes, we still buy it because the little lady is a coupon clipper. This is hilarious. Caught in the act! Picking them off one at time. Unfortunately, there are thousands left to go.

Awwww... Rachel was just having a sad day, what with the election and all.  She just needed a hug.  Cold hearted conservatives...

She concludes the diatribe with "bye" which is a short form of "good-bye" which is (I think) a contraction of "God be with you". Which sort of negates her message.

Public radio doesn't get very much money from the government. Instead, they get it from private donations, listeners and corporations. In fact, it's getting hard to tell the difference between an underwriting announcement and a commercial. High class, liberal commercial radio. If you want to advertise a luxury car or an arts event, where better to get the message across? My local public radio stations even run little reminders to prospective sponsors as to how affluent its listenership is.

Public television is even worse. They don't call PBS the "Petroleum Broadcasting Service" for nothing.

Hatred and intolerance at NPR?
Who wouldda thunk?

And to Rachel, I think CBS is looking for an anchor. Give 'em a buzz.

Another overheated PEST (Post Election Stress Trauma) sufferer. Should go down to Starbucks and order their special for liberal losers, "Disconsolatte." Rachel, take a midol, shave your legs, drink some herbal tea, suck it up and get over it!

And to think, with such substantive, constructive criticisms, the Democrats couldn't win the election. I'm shocked!

(EXTREME sarcasm off)

Actually, I'm very disgusted that they got as many votes as they did. But that's another matter.

She said she had lost her temper...

Is this an "angry white female"?

Will Peter Jennings report it as a "hissy fit"?

We are continually supplied with examples of the fact that our adversaries are juvenile, that they are the "haters" in this ideological conflict.

By afternoon, Buchman had resigned and offered apologies "to anyone who I may have personally offended" for what she called a "mistake."

NPR is the only radio in my area that plays classical music. I listen to it but I know where the on/off knob is for all of the rest of their crap.

"In fact, it's getting hard to tell the difference between an underwriting announcement and a commercial."

Underwriting announcements always overuse the transitive verb sense.
