Famous Atheist Now Believes in God

NEW YORK Dec 9, 2004 — A British philosophy professor who has been a leading champion of atheism for more than a half-century has changed his mind. He now believes in God more or less based on scientific evidence, and says so on a video released Thursday.

At age 81, after decades of insisting belief is a mistake, Antony Flew has concluded that some sort of intelligence or first cause must have created the universe. A super-intelligence is the only good explanation for the origin of life and the complexity of nature, Flew said in a telephone interview from England.

Flew said he's best labeled a deist like Thomas Jefferson, whose God was not actively involved in people's lives.

"I'm thinking of a God very different from the God of the Christian and far and away from the God of Islam, because both are depicted as omnipotent Oriental despots, cosmic Saddam Husseins," he said. "It could be a person in the sense of a being that has intelligence and a purpose, I suppose."

Well, took you long enough to reach our level of understanding. Keep trying, you might eventually catch up to us.

Looks like he is endorsing the whole 'Intelligent Design' theory.

That's very big of him to admit. God might be intelligent. I wonder if such a god thinks Flew is intelligent?

At 81 yrs old it's prolly not a good idea to insult God.

I think such a god would be amused at the fumblings of such a small mind as this guy's.

Always glad to see someone arrive at an objective conclusion based on simple observation of the evidence.

I'm sure God will be pleased with the fact that Dr. Flew believes in Him, once He can stop laughing.

I was thinking the same thing. Kind of like the fact that there are no atheists in foxholes.

I just love debating these so called intellectuals who think that evolution and the big bang is the key. Okay, what about the sins of man? What created those emotions, actions and our capability to think consiously?

And what created the big bang?
