President Bush Stands with the Iranian People

Excerpts of the Presidents State of the Union speech discussing Iran (Courtesy of RealPolitics.com):
Today, Iran remains the world's primary state sponsor of terror - pursuing nuclear weapons while depriving its people of the freedom they seek and deserve.

We are working with European allies to make clear to the Iranian regime that it must give up its uranium enrichment program and any plutonium re-processing, and end its support for terror.

And to the Iranian people, I say tonight:

As you stand for your own liberty, America stands with you.

Bush 1 encouraged Iraqis to overthrow Saddam and left them twisting in the wind when they tried.

I believe GWB means what he says though.

A fantastic speech, and I'm pleased Iran was highlighted so. It will be interesting to hear the world's response.

I thought he called out the mullahs in unequivocal terms. I don't think they will mistake his meaning. He means to see them out of power and for democracy to take root in Iran.

It will be a pleasure to watch how this chess game is played out. Dubya and his posse know how to get things done.

Doc Zin... I was thinking of you and Freedom44 when George W. Bush was speaking to the Iranian people about their choices. GWB says what he means and does what he says, Liberty is just around the corner........

We will not need to, Iran is ripe or Democracy. I pray for the Iranians daily. Persians are wonderful people that have been hijacked by the radicals. Their day is coming and God willing, they will soon have purple ink on their finger as well.

Bush called out the Mullahs and put them on notice (rightly so, IMO). Iran will be free one day. Probably not tomorrow, but it will be free.

Why Iran needs to be concerned with President Bush's speech

I believe the President is warning the Iranian regime that while he is preparing to take out their nuclear facilities, if absolutely necessary, he is also preparing to significantly ramp up international support for the Iranian people in their struggle to reclaim their country.

I expect we will begin to hear a lot more of Iran's human rights violations in order to win over the support of the European people who in turn will pressure their governments to stop all trade (the EU's only real weapon) until the regime guarantee's the Iranian people's human rights. Such international support was essential in the recent popular revolt in the Ukraine.

The regime cannot comply with this without risking encouraging a popular revolt. Which will likely lead to a united effort (US/EU/UN) to support the people of Iran struggle against their oppressive regime.

Things are about to heat up in Iran my friends.

I would love to hear your reactions to my analysis.

We need to prepare a volunteer information campaign to counter propaganda and UN-screaming to come from countries of preference for trade with the current Iranian rulers (for example, at least one large country just across the Caspian from Persia).

"Things are about to heat up in Iran my friends."

I agree with you 100%.....BUT FASTER,PLEASE! Iranian freedom fighters are thankful for moral support, but they are also in dire need of financial support. Already one very active anti-mullah Iranian satellite station had to close its door last week for lack of funds, and the others are spending their precious on-air time raising money just to stay on. This is so demoralizing to the people right now. The Iranians have no way of competing with the millions and even billions that the mullahs are spending to fight its enemies. Words are great, but urgent action is needed now to back it up.

On the other hand, it is great news that GE and Haliburton have pulled out of Iran. Also BP, which is a BIG psychological arrow into the heart of the mullahs -- the long, twisted, history of BP and Iran! -- as well as other European companies slowly reading the handwriting on the wall, and pulling out of trade negotiations with the thieves in control of Iran. All of these are concrete GOOD news for a change, but no more dillydallying. Time to turn up the heat, NOW.

Which station had to shut down for lack of funds?

I know one I might suspect, but haven't checked their broadcast yet....

Channel Azadi - 'freedom' channel -- was shut down last week. It was truly horrible. People were sending messages from Iran and around the world and begging the station to stay open, but they had no choice. They were out of funds.
