Of course standards are objective when they praise or uplift media darlings and other worldly wanna-bes and are subjective when they praise or uplift those who work against the heralds of this world. Old old story and the Trib needn't be ashamed: they're only doing their job for their boss.

I'm pretty sure the Tribune endorsed Bush. Generally speaking, the paper is culturally liberal and fiscally conservative, though when push comes to shove it tends to endorse Republicans.
While solid passing grades in school are important, what has been LOST in the whole process, due to learning institution failure, is "WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED?". Many kids today are not learning well, at all. That is what is important.
But I see this as an attempt by Kerry to water down the failures of the union-dominated government education system's massive failures. There is NO EXCUSE for what is, and who is responsible for it. We know the answers -- the libs will NEVER fix the educations system. A poorly educated public is the Socialist's dream machine.
Not a bad article, I was expecting the worst. Please correct me if I am wrong but you just don't get a B+ in philosophy at Yale by being stupid, and you certainly don't win a second term against all odds mounted against you by being stupid.

Bush took business courses, Kerry took liberal arts courses. No suprise here.

Excellent point. I was thinking the same thing. I think Bush was a business major, a much more rigorous course of study compared to French and polysci.
If sKerry does not allow for impartial review of ALL his records the case is NOT closed! The Boston Globe has NO IDEA what to look for!
I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought it was going to be another "grades don't count, Kerry is smarter anyway" thing. Leno did a routine along those lines last night. Infuriating.

So students of politics may have been surprised Tuesday to learn that Kerry's performance at Yale was no better - and perhaps slightly worse - than Bush's. The Boston Globe, citing records Kerry allowed the Navy to release, reported that Kerry had a cumulative grade of 76 during his four years at Yale, with several D's on his transcript. Under Yale's grading system then in effect, a score of 70 to 79 qualified as a C - which is better than freshman Kerry earned in geology, history or political science.
``I always told my dad that `D' stood for distinction,'' Kerry told the Globe on Monday.
It is notable that both of them got their lowest (D-range) grades in science classes (geology and astronomy), which might be a good indicator of why they are both so bad on those issues and quite hostile to good science.
If I remember correctly, weren't JFK's grades fairly mediocre?
skerry has always thought of himself as the "movie star" politician. He thought looks ( ugly as dirt to me)would take him to the top. SURPRISE
I heard on Fox News that Kerry's best grade was in FRENCH.
It figures.
Give the Boston Globe its due, no matter their overarching biases they've dug up more dirt on Kerry over the years than any other paper. Theres a bit of a game between the Globe and the Boston Herald to see who can get the latest dirt on Kennedy and Kerry, the Globe usually wins. A lot of the groundwork for Kerry stories in the campaign came from old Globe articles.
As for Yale grades, it means nothing to me and clearly it hasnt hurt either man. I'd like to see more presidential canidates not connected to the ivy league old boy network. Since the 1940s the only non-ivy leaguers were Ike, LBJ, Carter and Reagan. Nixon is a toss up since Duke is essentially an ivy school.
Consider the likely 2008 canidates (thus far)
Ivy Leaguers - Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney, Bill Frist, John Kerry
Non Ivy - John Mccain, John Edwards, Condi Rice, Newt Gingrich, Evan Bayh and believe it or not Jeb Bush!
