His Father banned a bunch of so called Assault rifles from being imported and the current Pres, banned all imports from Norinco as a trade measure.

I thought it was interesting that he picked a company which primarily makes guns. Actually they made some interesting .45's but thanks to Jr. we no longer have the option of choosing them.

I thought the Chinese/Norinco ban originated with Clinton.

Also, IIRC, the '91 (or thereabouts) semi-auto import ban was, as in this case, simply the BATF exercising the authority granted it under the '68 GCA. At the time, the domestic firearms manufacturers were *lobbying* for the import restrictions, I remember reading their complaints in the trade publications. Plenty of blame to go around, sadly.
