2005: Goobers in Politics Law

Posted on 09/08/2005 9:54:36 AM PDT by Rurudyne

Given statements I've read here and there (that the President should have ignored the Constitution and taken charge of a Democrat controlled state) I would propose this very simple law to allow a future president to take just such a course of action...

2005 Goobers in Politics Law

In the event of an impending natural disaster, when it becomes evident that local leaders are either slow or incapable of reacting in a timely fashion in order the safe guard the lives of the people who elected them:

The President of the United States shall have Power to declare such individuals "Goobers":

Thereby absolving them of the responsibility of exercising their administration and allowing the federal government to respond in a more timely fashion.

Further, the Senate shall then offer Advice and Consent as to if the appelation "Goober" should become permanent.

I find it of great interest that all these people who for 5 years called Bush a wouldbe Hitler and wannabe Military Dictator are know upset Bush didn't throw away the law and send in the troops from the start.

Well, THEY would have.

I actually had a lib ask me elsewhere if I thought it reasonable that President Bush 'let' those people die in order to preserve some theory of states rights and/or federalism.

And here I thought that a Governor could (all on his/her own) muster his state's National Guard and all things like that there ...

The Fox All Stars on Wednesday were talking about giving the federal government greater power to step in when the local authorities don't handle the situation. Brit seemed to be the only one questioning whether it was a good idea.

(sarcasm) it's all Bush's fault! All of it!! I stubbed my toe once, when I was 12yrs old and that was Bush's fault, too!!!,(/sarcasm)

;)

Pelosi is already backtracking and saying that members of her party are not going to take part in the investigation to see what went wrong, because she believes it will be a whitewash.

Spin, pure spin.

Seems the dems found a perfect way to get out of admitting that it was a failure of the dem mayor and governor.

What part of bi-partisan doesn't she understand?

That's the trouble; she understands that all too well. What she really wants is a kangaroo court show trial, headed by someone named Landrieu.

People who don't understand our system of government tend to assume the President has much more power to do things than he in fact does (thank you, James Madison). The History Channel this week is doing a series of programs about the Roman Empire...one "expert" last night opined that the President of the U.S. might be considered "emperor of the world."

Can you just imagine the uproar that would have taken place from the Dems camp if Bush openly stated that the mayor and governor were usless and the feds were taking over? Sheesh!

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. We need help taking care of their pets, too.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you. Believe me, there are a lot of organizations who need your help.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I'm adding more every night. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tuesday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Stingray blogsite

"The Fox All Stars on Wednesday were talking about giving the federal government greater power to step in when the local authorities don't handle the situation. Brit seemed to be the only one questioning whether it was a good idea."

The Fox Dimm Bulbs, with guest host Brit Hume.

The best best satire (intentional, I hope) of the ignorance of federalism I've seen was on the Hannity boards.

In one sentence a forumite decried the lack of understanding and then he began the next sentence with the words: "When I'm in power ..."

This just in: President Bush has declared Democrats to be a useless bunch of nincompoops and has ordered the DNC's servers to be replaced with "Speak-N-Spells." DNC chair Howard Dean was said to be audible from several blocks away.
