Jack Kelly: No shame. The federal response to Katrina was not as portrayed.
Post-Gazette ^ | Sept. 11, 2005. | Jack Kelly

Posted on 09/11/2005 2:16:27 PM PDT by motorola7

"The federal government pretty much met its standard time lines, but the volume of support provided during the 72-96 hour was unprecedented. The federal response here was faster than Hugo, faster than Andrew, faster than Iniki, faster than Francine and Jeanne."

For instance, it took five days for National Guard troops to arrive in strength on the scene in Homestead, Fla. after Hurricane Andrew hit in 2002. But after Katrina, there was a significant National Guard presence in the afflicted region in three.

Journalists who are long on opinions and short on knowledge have no idea what is involved in moving hundreds of tons of relief supplies into an area the size of England in which power lines are down, telecommunications are out, no gasoline is available, bridges are damaged, roads and airports are covered with debris, and apparently have little interest in finding out.

The Federal response was not fast enough for Jesse Jackson or even Al Sharpton. The Federal response was not fast enough for those who wouldn't evacuate when told they should. The Federal response was not fast enough to stop race baiting and those desperate because of anger and hate.

Its sure nice to know there still a few journalists left. (as opposed to the present crop of "news personalities")

why weren't they using local reporters, who at least could have provided some factual basis for the lay of the land, etc.

"The Federal response was not fast enough for Jesse Jackson or even Al Sharpton"

If this had happened in a mostly white district, these two ultimate black racists wouldn't have given a hoot or holler whether help arrived at all.

"journalists...long on opinions and short on knowledge have no idea"

I don't buy that for a minute. They love to spread deliberate lies and there is very little that we can do to dispute them in making this known to the masses who seem to rely on their reporting.

"We do not yet have teleporter or replicator technology like you saw on 'Star Trek' in college between hookah hits and waiting to pick up your worthless communications degree while the grown-ups actually engaged in the recovery effort were studying engineering."

:-D )))

Nor, for that matter, do our emergency-management people have access to wands, as do Master Potter and his classmates and teachers at Hogwarts School. Sorry about that.

The difference is that the Florida authorities were more in control in their state, but the New Orleans situation deteriorated instantaneously. So even though the response to Katrina was faster than usual, the dysfunctional governmental bodies exacerbated the problems and caused a lot more suffering than was experienced in Florida.

I've wondered why there are so few people willing to ask the reporters who carry on endlessly about how they were "there long before the Feds" why the reporters didn't bring along the necessary food and water themselves since they seem to think it is so easy to do.

How long have the blacks of New Orleans been poor, destitute, without jobs? 50+ years. And has Jackson and Sharpton taken care of this blight? This Tragedy of a half a century long? New coverage in New Orleans shout a big

There are NO journalists, and haven't been for 40 years.

Only political operatives.
