Glad you've rethought your position some.

Ok...you are either the biggest glutton for punishment on the face of the earth...or that took a little courage. You can pick.

What I appreciate is that you took time to think it through, get some facts, ratchet down the disappointment and really assess the way things are, not the way we wish them to be. I support the President on this, although I am still not excited about the pick. If that puts me in the company of Thomas Sowell, well so be it. It could be worse.

In my opinion, one of the President's strongest leadership qualities is his ability to change strategies as the situation on the ground changes. His goals never change, but he does not blindly press on using yesterday's playbook.

So, uh, welcome back sort of. I look forward to your carefully thought out posts, as well as the very entertaining in the heat of the moment ones too. You have to admit, it is a fairly effective way to create a, um...legacy. ; )

There is nothing about Pukin Dog that you need to know.

There is nothing more tantalizingly mysterious than a secretive person who will not reveal a secret even to his friends who will keep his secret safe from nosey blabbermouths who are incapable of keeping a secret!

I don't blame you Pukin Dog for a secret is not safe with me either!

<<... Harriet Miers stands as the only nominee on Bush’s list which has any chance of confirmation by the Senate Judiciary Committee.>>

Do you really believe that information? This is just silly. Even w/o a positive committee vote, a judge can be brought straight to the floor. The question is whether there would a majority vote for the nominee in question. How can anyone possibly know that only 49 or less Senators would vote for Alito, McConnell, Luttig, etc., etc. I think you are dead wrong. Specter is the 4th most liberal member of the Senate on social/ judicial votes. So even w/o him you have 51 votes. Who else (other than Chafee, Snowe and Collins) is much of a possibility to vote no assuming a decent performance in the hearings? If you cannot answer that question, you are being sold a bill of goods.

This line of reasoning, that you are using, has been said by many others. I think it is very, very silly. There were many other possibilities, E. Clement for example, who would have had a very strong chance of being confirmed and also have had our side excited and their side depressed.
