The Murtha Democrats vrs. The Sunni Resistance: Who Will Surrender First?
self | 11-20-2005 | WL-Law

A preposterous (and suspiciously French) convergence of events may be looming – that the Sunni resistance and the House and Senate Democrats will find themselves in a race to see who will surrender first.

Consider the following evidence.

A story appeared today, and was posted here on FreeRepublic (http://menewsline.com/stories/2005/november/11_20_1.html), discussing a purported opening offered by the Sunni resistance.

...

SUNNI RESISTANCE PREPARED TO TALK TO U.S.

BAGHDAD [MENL] 11-20-2005-- The Sunni resistance in Iraq has offered to discuss its future with the United States. But U.S. officials do not believe that the offer was genuine. Ayham Al Samarai, who said he represents the Iraqi resistance, said seven insurgency groups were ready to discuss with the United States an end to the war in Iraq. Al Samarai said the groups would not negotiate with the interim government in Baghdad. Al Samarai heads the Independent Iraqis Grouping. He has also served as electricity minister in the interim government. "The people who are resisting are doing so honorably to protect this country," Al Samarai said. "The government must recognize them as legitimate representatives of the Iraqis."

...

Now consider the following -- last week an interesting and intriguing development was reported (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4429608.stm), when considered in conjunction with the above story:

....

KEY SADDAM AIDE 'DIED OF CANCER' BBC News World Edition 11-13-2005

Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri on the US-issued pack of cards of most-wanted Saddam Hussein loyalists. Izzat Ibrahim was a key member of Saddam Hussein's circle

One of Saddam Hussein's closest aides, Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, died of cancer, a website run by members of Iraq's former ruling Baath party says. His de*th was first announced by the Baath party on Friday, but no details were given then. He had leukaemia. Douri, 63, was the most senior figure in the former regime still at large. The US had offered a $10m reward for information leading to his capture.

In recent years he was accused of financing insurgent groups in Iraq. The BBC's Jim Muir in Baghdad says the Americans regarded Douri as their most wanted man, after the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari said that Douri's de*th would be good news for Iraq and bad news for the insurgency.

But the US military is treating the news with caution. Spokesman Lt Col Steven Boylan said the reported could be a ruse. "How much of this is pure propaganda to say he is de*d is hard to know," Lt Col Boylan said.

...

When the report of Al-Duri's (and please note that the report was MADE BY THE BAATHISTS) was posted here on FR, I posted the following thoughts in response:

“…Since on its face it is an 'admission against their interest', there has to be a reason for the Baathist terriorists to make this announcement. It could be a ruse, but here's another thought -- the Baathists are soon to be further marginalized once the December elections are completed.

So -- how do they save face and try to make a transition from a war party to a political party? One way is to create a milestone that they can point to and say, 'here's when things changed for us, not due to our defeat at the hands of the americans, but due to something else.'

And -- the 'something else' could be Al-Duri's . The Baathists can claim, 'it was per Al-Duri's leadership that we thought that war and rebellion was our only option.' They can say, 'now that he is , we (referring to some elements, but not all) want to join the political process.'

Perhaps they envision something like the Palestinian militant groups that have a 'political' wing as well as a 'military' wing, which has allowed them to play multiple sides of an issue. I'm sure the Baathists have been taking serious notes regarding these strategies….”

...

And now today – a week later – there is some news that the Sunnis want to ‘talk’. Hmmm – I see a pattern here. Don’t expect to hear ANYTHING about in the MSM, since it doesn’t hit the “frame” of the week, i.e., that Bush needs an exit strategy. Could the Democrats’ timing be any worse, or be any more “French”?

Any Freepers who keep up on military developments in western Iraq along the Euphrates (I recommend a daily visit to "The Fourth Rail" at http://billroggio.com/ to get the news that the MSM seems is "not fit to print", and which records the powerful success of the US and Iraqi miltary forces in the last months) will understand why the Baathists may be on the verge of raising the white flag, so this scenario may be something more than a mre ruse.

"The government must recognize them as legitimate representatives of the Iraqis."

May I suggest that they run for office, get democratically elected and, since Peace will then break out, the Americans will leave.

What the Sunnis actually want is to re-enslave the Shiite and Kurdish majorities.

What the Democrats and their liberal news media allies want is to see Bush fail even at the cost of having the U.S. lose a war that is in the mopping up stage.

The Democrats, the American liberal news media and the Baathist terrorists have formed an unholy trinity.

The only acceptable outcome is crushing BOTH the terrorists in Iraq and the "Murtha Democrats" in the U.S. No settlement, no compromise.

We can succeed in both if the so-called "leaders" demonstrate the will to do so. Forcing the Dems to vote Friday night on the silly - and treasonous - suggestion by Murtha was a good first step, but it's something that needs to be done over and over until these fools STFU.

Yes, the Demonrats (and many Republicans, it seems) are much easier to "negotiate" with. Argh!!

The dummies are now touting Murtha as a possible nominee in 08. They are so out of touch, I wonder if they'll ever win another election...

After the "Murtha vote" is Howard Dean discussing the DNC's surrender terms with Ken Mehlman?

Hey it would be great if Rumsfeld came up with a plan to win in less than 10 years, preferably 2006.

Not even the Democrats are this dumb. This would be a rerun of Perot's VP running mate ... "Who am I, and what am I doing here?"

That's too easy: the Sunnis will surrender first. The Dems are being driven by their rank and file.

I can top that idiocy.

I heard Doug Stefan claim that the GOP ticket will be McCain and Hagel.

Gawd, these people are MORONS. And Congress enables them by not slapping them down like the fools they are.
