Robberies in Minneapolis are on pace to reach their highest peak since 1997, according to the Police Department's robbery unit. Citywide, robberies are up 21 percent this year from the same time in 2004, police said. According to data released this week, there have been 2,462 robberies this year, compared with 2,038 at the same time last year. Robbery unit commander Lt. Michael Fossum said the number of robberies will probably be near or exceed 3,000 by year's end; the last time they hit that mark was 1997, with 3,326.

Boy-mayor Rybak told us just prior to his re-election that if you were not engaged in a "risky lifestyle" ,you'd be just fine. BS.

at least the cops will be there real quick to take your victim statement.(sarcasm)

Would not have anything to do with those "No guns" signs so many of them put up now would it?

Looks like Minneapolis needs more laws, more gun control, and more unrestricted immigration. Yeah, that's the ticket!

nowdays Mary Tyler Moore would get raped and mugged and someone would steal her silly hat.But I'm sure the perps are spending the money on prescriptions for grandma and food for children.

It's interesting that illegal immigration is also at a high for that period.

"They call Minneapolis the new Axochiapan," said Ramiro Hernández, a successful businessman who arrived in the United States illegally 20 years ago from Axochiapan, a small town in the central Mexican state of Morelos. "Ninety percent of the population there has people over here. Kids come here as soon as they come of age."

The 2000 census recorded 41,600 Mexican-born people in Minnesota, up from 3,500 counted in 1990. Locals in Minneapolis say that new arrivals have multiplied even faster over the last five years, coming from Mexico and from Mexican hubs in the United States, notably Chicago. "We think there are around 200,000," Mr. Wolf said.(snip)

Sounds like so many other cities in this country. It must be caused by avian flu.

I bet car thieft is up as well....
In my state the FBI had to move on several
new car lots in a major city.

The scam worked like this.....
Illegals were sold a car by the dealer.
The dealer secured financing through a
lender.
The illegal would default, the taxpayers
would pick up the tab.
The FBI had to move in and shut the dealer
down. The FBI estimated at the one
dealership, vehicles moved (stolen)
in this manner was near 100 plus or minus.
The real total never came out.....
Did the media say much about this....No.
In fact it would not surprise me that other
dealers are getting in on the scam.

Just think of all the other cities throughout
the country where this scam was going on or is
still going on and how many vehicles are being
moved (stolen) and the taxpayers are picking up
the tab.

Now taking bets that 99.99999% of the robberies occur in the places that have signs out which state that firearms are forbidden.

I pointed that out when I was last in Minnesota to a manager. "Gee, if I was a robber, the first thing I'd notice is that 'no guns allowed' sign on your front door. Then I'd know you'd be easy pickings!"

He didn't seem to appreciate my pointing out the painfully obvious...but it sure didn't diminish my joy at his discomfort.

(10 million riders my ass-how many actually paid to ride?)

1) That number *is* the paid rides!
2) I live in Eagan and work in Saint Paul yet even I have used that system (round trip between Fort Snelling and Downtown) 7 times this year. four for a a training class downtown and three for baseball games.
3) Is not a light rail to nowhere (go to Buffalo NY to see on of those systems) it goes to two airport terminals, the mall of America and the largest city in the state. 4) It makes it from the MOA to Downtown faster than I can drive it (assuming I keep the speed limits)..

Other than that your criticisms of the Mayor are valid..
