LOS ANGELES RADIO STATION SQUARES-OFF WITH MUSLIM GROUP Mon Jan 30 2006 10:10:49 ET
Los Angeles's top talkradio station is under fire from a Muslim civil liberties group because of comments made earlier this month by morning man Bill Handel. The Council on American-Islamic Relations has demanded an apology from Handel for making fun of a stampede that killed hundreds of Muslims during an annual pilgrimage.
But the station and Handel are set to fire back, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
Handel will apologize IF the Council on American-Islamic Relations:
1) Decries all acts of terror (described specifically, not generally)
2) Agrees that Israel is a sovereign nation with the right to defensible borders
3) CAIR has no ties of any sort, financially or otherwise, to any terror orgs or individiuals.
KFI-AM does not condone making light of the deaths of people engaged in religious observances. We regret that listeners found the comments of one of our on-air hosts to be insensitive. KFI does not censor its hosts, nor does it tell them what to say or not to say. KFI is a strong and passionate believer in 1st amendment rights and that is at the very core of this radio station.
He admits to being an equal opportunity offender.
The offensive skit included one of his show guys doing an Arab traffic helicopter reporter over the "stampede" at the Hajj pilgrimage. (CAIR was also offended over the word "stampede.")
Handel is pretty sharp. I may have to tune into this one, as he will likely hammer those knuckleheads.
CAIR doesn't have anything to do but be offended. Just ask them!
I have a love/hate relationship with Handel. In contrast to CAIR which is hate/hate. They can teach Bill Clinton a thing or two about doublespeak!
I do think those comments were in bad taste. Laughing about individuals dying while on a holy (to them) pilgrimmage is not exactly my idea of humor. There is enough in Islam to legitimately make fun of, and war against, that we don't need to waste time with this kind of crap.
Ping to Bill Handel of KFI fighting back against CAIR.
I wish I could have heard this....does anyone know how many accidents occurred on the L.A. highways simultaneously with the skit?
Anyone who listens to Handel will be offended eventually, because that is what he does best. His approach to the law is hilarious, and his program consists of satire at its best.
If CAIR took him seriously, they are more stupid than previously thought.
"(CAIR was also offended over the word "stampede.")"
Pigs don't stampede!
That's not Bill Handle...Bill Handle is REALLY FAT, isn't he?
Compare KFI's decision to take a stand against CAIR to WMAL's spinelessness last July. KFI rocks! And Handel is right on with his three conditions for an apology!
Here;s the link to KFI's stream.
He is basically conservative with a few liberal ideas thrown in (national health care and gay marriage). He is a very hard worker with several full-time jobs, and he won the local Marconi this last year. He's obnoxious but has great in-depth reporting on stories that really matter. I don't always listen to him but I'm never sorry when I do. I've met him and we had a great conversation.
He got one of the surgeries and now he's skinny. Go figure.
Yeah, Bill looks fantastic. He used to be a round kugel when he had his TV show. He probably lost one hundred pounds after having that gastric surgery.
See post 17. He looks great now, very handsome!!
Wow...the surgery.. That gastric bypass is something, isn't it? But look at Randy Jackson from American Idol...he put it all back on in less than a year!!!! There's another surgery where they bypass the thing that absorbs fat. So you can eat all you want and not gain weight? Doesn't that sound great....the only downside is you have to take an enormous amount of supplements as your body does not absorb the amount of vitamins and minerals and it needs. But really, for some people, it's a dream come true!
Who, exactly, designated CAIR as the official spokesman of Muslims in America?
I mean, besides the NYT and their MSM allies.
