the Ambien defense...sleep-driving. I guess the first statement was the "trial balloon," huh?
Does anybody know if there IS an "Ambien sleep-driving" defense?

Well I hate to defend a Kennedy -- but I know someone who took Ambien and it made them hallucinate. And I've taken Phenergan and that stuff makes you wierd, too, but the main side effect is .. unconciousness.

My husband takes Ambien and if taken as directed it's affects are normally worn off in a couple of hours. I think the drug was specifically made to induce sleep, not to keep you unconscious until morning.
They guy has probably picked up the "ambien" story on some recent TV magazine series touting the side effects of ambien, which IMHO and our physicians is a pretty rare side effect. Wonder how long he's been taking Ambien and why all of a sudden it's creating a convenient problem for him.

"Ambien"
Even if this were true, and I doubt it is, it should not matter.
In my state, if you are under the influence of "prescription medication", you are still DUI-D.
BTW....I take Ambien....if you wake up within 8 hours after taking it, it's just like being drunk.

A well known doctor here in Houston just used Ambian and alcohol as an excuse as to why he was driving on the sidewalk and ran 2 women down. Don't remember the outcome of his trial.
