My take on this.

It appears that as Iraq was bracing for a possible attack from the USA, that air defense positions were being prepared. At some point someone pointed out to Uday that chemicals were buried at one of these positions. This memo looks like a response to a request from Uday to find out about this one particular position where he was told that chemicals had been buried and that the current Military Industrialization Commission had no knowledge of.

This response memo to Uday's request for information appears to confirm what someone told Uday about chemicals being buried there.

If indeed this is the case then this position should not be hard for the coalition troops to check given that the memo pretty much identifies the area: Fallujah region at a quarry once used by the Korean company SamSung.

There is a large F.O.B. in the area called Camp Anaconda. Maybe we should send this translated memo to some of the troops there to see if this can be further investigated?

There are APO addresses for all the bases in Iraq. We should "direct-mail" as mayn as possible who are in that area. Some smart FReeper proably can answer your question with definite mailing addresses. If not, I'll find out.

Well, having a Korean semiconductor plant next to a weapon's program raises my eyebrow. Especially when Korea is also flexing.

US finds 'insurgent lair' in Iraq American troops in Iraq have discovered a series of underground bunkers used by insurgents, the US military says.

A spokesman said the complex in an abandoned quarry in the restive province of Anbar covered an area the size of four football pitches.

The bunkers are said to contain a large stockpile of weapons and living areas with air conditioning and showers.

Meanwhile, Iraqi authorities said they had arrested an insurgency leader and key al-Qaeda figure in Mosul.

The arms cache was one of 50 found in recent days in Anbar province, west of Baghdad, the spokesman said.

Tips from locals and information from detainees had helped to identify the locations uncovered in the ongoing operation, the spokesman said.

He said nobody was in the underground complex near the town of Karma when it was found.

Inside they discovered weapons, ammunition, black uniforms and ski masks, night vision goggles and fully-charged mobile phones.

The complex also contained four furnished living spaces and a kitchen with fresh food, the spokesman said.

US and Iraqi forces continue to battle insurgents in the vast province following a major assault on rebels in Falluja last November.

Those bunkers are huge concrete structures! Perhaps chemicals were buried within the walls or other structures of the bunkers and the structure needs to be torn apart to find them?

I think your translated memo needs to get into the hands of field commanders that can do further investigating.

As I keep reading the translated memo I think they buried the chemicals in the region of that bunker. I don't think it's the bunker itself. There just may be a big block of cement buried in that area containing chemical weapons.

I think this memo has legs. Definitely need to get it into the hands of people who are in the field and can further investigate.

A fleet?! Good Grief ... how big a container are we talking about?

I wonder what the material is? I am taking the use of concrete mixers as an indication that they encased the chemical in concrete indicating it must be hazardous. What is strange is that they would bury it in Sunni territory?

Thanks, jveritas. Why is it that the L/MSM has been breathlessly reporting that mustard gas buried by the Imperial Japanese Army (the Kwantung Army) in Manchuria 65 years ago has recently "been discovered, and has not even considered that possibility in the case of Saddam's Iraq?

I think because they trust the Sunnis more than the Shia not to tell the UN inspectors about it. The material must be a weapon grade Chemical material or else they will not do all this to bury and hide it.
