It's the story that the journalistic elite would rather just go away. In the aftermath of Reuters' admission that one of its photographers, Adnan Hajj, had manipulated two war images from Lebanon after bloggers smoked out his crude Photoshop alterations, and all 920 of his Reuters photos were pulled, evidence of far more troubling photo staging and media deception in the Middle East continues to pour in.
Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs (littlegreenfootballs.com) calls it "fauxtography."
Reuters on Sunday withdrew an image of smoke rising from burning buildings after an Israeli air strike on the suburbs of Beirut on August 5, 2006 after evidence emerged that it had been manipulated to show more smoke. The manipulated image is shown on the left. The unaltered image, shown on the right, has since run. Reuters has told the photographer, freelance Adnan Hajj, that the agency will not use any more of his pictures
One of Hajj's photos was an iconic image of a dusty dead child with a clean blue pacifier clipped to his shirt, paraded by a corpse handler at the site of an Israeli airstrike in Qana, Lebanon. Mainstream journalists have sneered at bloggers' suspicions, first raised at EU Referendum (eureferendum.blogspot.com), that some of the gruesome photos from that scene may have been staged. Washington Post photographer Michael Robinson-Chavez, who was at Qana, huffed: "Everyone was dead, many of them children. Nothing was set up." But last week, a German television station aired damning video footage from the scene showing a lead propaganda director (dubbed the "Green Helmet Guy") positioning a young boy's corpse, yanking it from an ambulance, placing it on two different stretchers for the cameras and pushing bystanders out of the way for clearer shots.

BOTTOM LINE: The Washington Post doesn't know it's ass from first base.
People buy the paper to read the news. Once they understand that the a paper does not report the news, there is no reason to buy it. The Washington Post is diging it's own grave.
Not only that, but the guy on the left looks like he's exerting almost no effort. Two guys carrying a litter with any kind of normal-sized person is a lot of effort, especially over rough terrain.
Joe Elbert, Washington Post assistant managing editor for photography, told ombudsman Deborah Howell smugly: "We don't use tools to change reality." Newsflash: You are the tools being used.

Mathew Brady posed corpses at Gettysburg for dramatic effect. The famous Vietnamese girl fleeing a "napalm attack" was actually injured in a cooking accident. The Iwo Jima photograph was a "do over". I figure well over half the MSM media photos from any disaster or war are posed or staged.
The napalm girl grew up and I saw her in an interview and she said it was napalm.
She should know, no?
He added more smoke? That's it? Get a grip, people. Now, if he photoshopped in smoke where there was none ... well, THAT'S a story.

Notice that the strap on the left isn't tightened down at all either.

Get the facts straight. The Rosenthal photo was not a "do over". It was a photo of the raising of a larger, second flag on top of Mt. Sirubachi. There was nothing faked about the photo.

The only way the Washington Post can get to first base is if there is a passed ball by the catcher.

Michael Heer (sp?) in dispatches says it was a cooking accident. In any event, the planes dropping napalm in that area at that time were South Vietnamese.
She may well be in Elian Gonzales mode, where her prospects are tied to her ability to stick to a story.

Once you have made those decisions you have embedded your own perspective in the story.Civilians were intentionally being injured and killed in Israel by indiscriminate rocket bombardment by Hezbolla - but you were in Lebanon being taken on a guided tour of civilian casualties which were accidents from the POV of the Israelis but intended by the Hezzies who were using them for human shields. The very fact that you were in Lebanon at all under those conditions speaks volumes about your perspective.
Your presence in Lebanon changed the reality in Lebanon. The prospect of your presence in Lebanon change the reality there for the worse, since it was the hope that you would publish photos and eve fauxtos of Lebanese civilian casualties which motivated Hezbolla to keep civilians near their rocket launchers. Not change reality? You killed people.Bingo!The fact that you preferentially report bad news means that you are bad news.
