Iran taunts West on eve of nuclear deadline

By Tim Butcher, Middle East Correspondent

(Filed: 30/08/2006)

Iran goaded the West yesterday, suggesting that European and American companies should bid for contracts to build reactors and other nuclear infrastructure planned by Teheran.

Meanwhile, diplomats were searching in vain for signs of a change in Iran's defiant position before tomorrow's UN deadline for it to halt uranium enrichment.

Promising to press ahead with his country's nuclear programme, Mr Ahmadinejad complained bitterly about the UN Security Council, saying that its domination by the victorious powers of the Second World War was out of date.

He invited President George W Bush to go head-to-head with him in a televised debate to address issues including Islam, the influence of Israel and the right of countries to develop nuclear technology.

While Iran has repeatedly said it is interested in developing nuclear technology only for generating electricity, the West believes it wants to make nuclear weapons.

If, as seems likely, Iran fails to comply with the deadline imposed by the security council last month, America is likely to lead the call for economic sanctions.

But since Russia has already ruled them out, the issue threatens the security council with its biggest rift since the acrimonious debate over the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

"The US and Britain are the source of many tensions," said Mr Ahmadinejad.

"This veto right [at the security council] is the source of the problems of the world. It is an insult to the dignity, independence, freedom and sovereignty of nations."

Ahmadinejad is playing chess, so they can produce lots of plutonium for nuclear weapons.

We are surrounded by weak, feckless fools who would make Nevell Chamberlain look strong by comparison. They're either too naive or ignorant to realize Iran has never had any intention of giving up its nuclear ambitions from day one.

Iran is playing us all for the suckers we are.

I am not one of the "Nuke em til they glow" crowd, but I have to admit I agree with you.

This guy seems to live for attention. He is a 5' 1" jerk.

Yeah I know, it's a little sloppy but it's late, and that little runt doesn't deserve too much effort unless it's the effort taken to light one off under his skanky ass:
