Freedom Fades in California

Freedom is a fragile thing. A candlelight in a windstorm, if you will, requiring constant vigilance to preserve. It is never safe, as the old saying goes, as long as the California Legislature (or Congress, for that matter) is in session.

That is because the ruling class, that is, elected officials, bureaucrats, and their allies in the private sector, get money, power and prestige from bigger government, and bigger government is an anathema to freedom. Therefore, those who are in charge of protecting our freedom, (i.e. government officials) have a vested interest in taking it away. Human nature being what it is, everyone, including those in government, act to enhance their money, power and prestige. The less freedom you have, the more power the ruling class has.

Let’s take a look at what the collectivists in Sacramento did this past week to infringe on your freedom, and enhance their power.

First, SB 840 by State Senator Sheila Kuehl, a socialist from West Hollywood. SB 840 would create a “single-payer” medical system (that single payer being the government) so that “everyone” would have “medical care.” Of course everyone means everyone, whether they are in this country legally or illegally, and whether they can afford to pay for it themselves or not, or whether their boss is already paying for it. Essentially, you or your boss would pay a tax to the state, and in return, you would get medical care... [more]

Freedom is fading EVERYWHERE, it's not just a California thing. I live in Maryland and I'd say freedom is dead here. In Columbia they have laws governing the number of pets you can have (like in China except w/number of kids), what color your house has to be (which has to be approved by the neighborhood soviet--I mean, council), and laws that you can't have towels hanging on your back porch. Talk about watered-down communism--socialism--in action.

Who the Hell needs "Freedom", when they can be "safe", LOL?I do, for one, a dog on a leash isn't as likely to get hit by a bus as a free running stray, but I never found a collar to fit me right.
Ben Franklin saw this day coming.

NO - the bad news is the Governor will sign the bills on minimum wage and global warming. And his veto of single payer is scant comfort. The Democrats will be back at it next year and they will try and try and try again until they succeed.

(No more Olmert! No more Kadima! No more Oslo! )

What was with the cast of "Dobie Gillis?" Warren Beatty is as liberal as they come and Sheila is a rabid anti-male lesbian who thinks the government solves all problems.

Too bad we can't elect Dobie instead. And the Professor as his top advisor.

RIP, Maynard G. Krebs.

Why not make the minimum wage $100 per hour? Or better yet an even $1000 per hour? That way no one is prevented from becoming a rich millionaire....

Glad the "gay textbook bill" was rightfully vetoed too.

Au contraire, Freedom is on the march.

If the world were "overrun", I doubt you'd be posting, or have the freedom to post here.

The world is NOT overrun by liberalism, Islamofascim, socialism, terrorism.

You just hear about it because News Programs and MSM have to make a living too. And they don't make a good living off of GOOD news. So, they ramp up the bad.

I had been in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1965. I had no plans to move, I planned to stay and fight. Circumstances dictated that I move to help family members two years ago. I did. What you will find, elsewhere in the country will reveal most clearly to you what a lie you are living in currently, in DC. You are living in a squalor and cesspool of fetid corruption. I was too. There are areas in the country that are contaminated zones; I was living once, in one, you are currently living in one. The problem is, that you've lived for quite some time having your spirit and truth abused; You learn to cope.

Throw off your shackles! I wish you well and may your joy be abundant, G8Diplomat. The world is NOT taken over by socialist liberals. And, you will see this with your own eyes, soon, I pray.

I wouldn't call it watered down, I'd call it "In your face, what are you gonna do now lemming?" Socialism.

I meant to say socialism is watered-down communism. It's communism but not in its full-blast form. Communism is the in-your-face-what-are-you-gonna-do-now-lemming socialism.
