But the post in it's entirety looked too familiar, which drew my comment.

IIRC, they recovered about 700,000 of it, which funded the initial temporary government and paid the salaries of the Iraqi military until it was spent.

It really says something when it's so much paper money that you couldn't walk off with it all. It certainly would be a temptation to have a spare million or two stuck to your shoe or something . . .

This story was well known since May 2003, but I am not sure a translation has been posted before regarding this document of Saddam ordering the Iraqi central bank to give his son 1 billion dollars.

Part of my brief against journalism is its insistence that the only thing that matters is what it wants to talk abut. And what journalism wants to talk about is how important the news is - thereby suggesting that nothing matters after it is no longer new. Nothing matters to them except what is so new that they have an information advantage over the rest of us.

They have no interest in actually informing, their only interest is in self promotion.
