I remember him from the good old TechTV days, one thing you could always tell was that he loved his family dearly.
I am a bit frustrated by those (not referencing anyone on this site, but comments I have read on others) criticizing him for his decision to leave the car. All I see is a man who, seeing that help did not seem to be coming, took it upon himself to try to save his family. In my opinion, he did what any loving man should do in that situation and did not rely on the government or outside sources and attempted to get help for his wife and kids. Those who criticize him could just as easily be telling a different story if it was not for whatever providence came upon the rescuers who found Kati and the childern.
As one poster above said, he died a man and a hero and it is a shame that he probably never knew that his family was safe. There is comfort in knowing that his heroism will be able to live on in the hearts of his wife and kids, who will at least be able to one day understand the sacrifice that he made for them.
