US: the conspiracy that wasn’t.
http://mondediplo.com/2006/12/02conspiracy ^ | Alexander Cockburn

The left in the United States remains distracted by fantastic stories about conpiracies hatched by the Bush administration: in many of these, even the 9/11 attacks are believed to have been an inside job.

(...)

I am therefore sure that the Bush gang, and all the real conspirators of Washington, are delighted at the obsessions of the 9/11 conspiracists. It’s a distraction from the 1,001 real plots of capitalism that demand exposure and political challenge. As Theodore Adorno wrote: “The tendency to occultism is a symptom of regression in consciousness” (5).

Marxist writer is angry at the 9/11 conspiratorial Left. "There are plenty of real conspiracies in the US. Why make up fake ones?" he asks.

Octogenarian Marxist trying to herd the kiddies into the orthodox fold. AC will go to his grave thinking he is one up on most of humanity because he understands 'the iron laws of dialectics.' LOL, I can't laugh at him LOUD enough.

"As Theodore Adorno wrote: “The tendency to occultism is a symptom of regression in consciousness” "

I think Adorno is saying that swallowing a line of paranoid crap means you're not thinking well.

However, Adorno says it much, much better.

Yeah...he really was behind 9/11...and where are those people that were on the plane that supposedly crashed into the Pentagon? Bush is an idiot!

Location of the passengers tears down the entire house of cards that the anti-conspiracy theorist come up with.

My question exactly.

AC did coin that delightful word, "factoid". He used it in the Village Voice to describe newspaper coverage of the murder of a model by her gangster boyfriend. He compared coverage in the Daily News, Post and NY Times to what "was known" about the case. Even the NYT engaged in more than a little fictionalization. Who'd a thunk?

He's funny guy, sometimes.

Obviously he doesn't understand - or chooses to ignore - the difference between a "conspiracy" and the natural effect of mutual interest. This failure to comprehend human nature is the thread common to all Marxists.

Reminds me of the South Park episode where the Bush Administration was part of a conspiracy BEHIND the 9/11 conspiracy, to make people think they're all-powerful. :P

That's a great quote - however, as we've seen so often on FR, one man's occultism is another man's holy and true faith. ;)

It is happening today in Brooklyn, even as similar ethnic cleansing and gentrification is scheduled in San Francisco, where Bayview Hunters Point is the last large black community in the Bay Area, sitting on beautiful waterfront property: so now is the time to move the black folks out.

Bayview/Hunter's Point is not the "last large black community in the Bay Area", it's a collection of housing projects and crack dens and it's way past time to move the criminals out and redevelop the area.

Hey, the conspiracy nuts are not all leftists! I have a good friend who is a well educated NASA engineer and a devout Christian who believes every word that Alex Jones speaks. I was astounded that he distrusts Bush as much as Clinton. I have met people who know both men personally and there IS a difference.
