San Francisco Anti-War March (Barf Alert)
channel 11 news | 1/27/07 | Marie2

Posted on 01/27/2007 7:14:58 PM PST by Marie2

Just watched the 6:00 'news' on channel 11. . . they say thousands marched in San Francisco against the "surge."

One sign I read said: "Impeach. Prosecute. Execute."

One protester interviewed praised the diverse crowd - she was especially happy with the DOG turnout.

The reporter said usually they see a few war-supporting counter-protestors, but today there were none, although they looked and looked and looked.

Send reinforcements!

This is one of the first one of these marches I've missed. I looked around and heard of no counter-protests planned. Their turnout was pitiful (there's another thread that gives 1500 as the crowd estimate). I just couldn't be bothered with these freaks today.

That was the Chronicle. They're there. I figure they'd know if anyone did.

The social conservatives would never make the trade. Singapore not only allows, but has government support for stem cell research.

Okay, I checked the Chronicle story and they've updated to three to five thousand. Still...in San Francisco...on a weekend...for an antiwar protest? That's sad.

I have a relative that emailed me some video clips [earlier this evening] of the march, along with a number of still photos.

She said that there wasn't a lot of TV press there. It would seem that the organizers didn't do a very good job of getting their message out to the press. And that the "protest" just wasn't very newsworthy.

This pretty penny ante stuff compared to Vietnam protests.

It's interesting, for a short time, reading the signs. Some of them are just sort of ....huh? I mean one guy had one that said "FREE FOOD". Who was holding the food captive?

I wish SF would leave CA and become a foreign state as a majority of the sheeple there are radical, anti US/Bush/WOT PsOS. I am sick and tired of these lib commie jerks and it's high time to do something/anything about it.

Proof of this claim on Stem Cells? I suspect you are confusing Adult Stem Cell research for Embryonic. Singpore is run by people entirely too smart to waste their money on such a dead end research line as Embryonic Stem cells.

Oh yes, there are still some Americans in San Francisco, but we are hunkered down like the remaining humans in "Terminator."

> Proof of this claim on Stem Cells?

Last month a local company, ES Cell International, claimed to be the first company to commercially produce human embryonic stem cell lines in a way that makes them suitable for clinical trials. Researchers can buy vials of stem cells from ES Cell over the Internet for $6,000.

Singapore, notably conservative on most social issues — including a ban on most types of chewing gum — is emerging as a hotbed for stem cell research, thanks to liberal laws in that field and equally liberal government financing.

No confusion on my end. Maybe they see more promise in the research than some in the US.

There was another article I read (in TIME, perhaps) regarding the "poaching" of the leading researchers in the US to help set up a research facility in Singapore, as well. The anti-stem cell mania of some in the US has actually produced (is producing) a reverse brain drain.

As long as you learn to fight back and storm the fences you should be OK.
