I happened to read an old book pulished in the 80's this afternoon, and it included a reference to "Christian repression in these times" (USA in the 80's).

It's absolutely hilarious to me seeing how the MSM has had to recalibrate their attacks on Christianity today, and yet the NYTs and every other paper doesn't have DAILY coverage of oppression by Muslims--REAL oppression--happening right now.

I am sometimes stunned to see the effect of Islamic Terror on "intellectual -left" that would look for flaws in Christianity only to create an illusion of a smaller gap between Christianity & Islam. Does Terrorism work? of course it does, especially on the NYT/NPR type.

Does any NYT/NPR Reporter really think that the Islamists will love us since we bash out culture?

If Christians did what Muslims did as routine, the NYT would have DAILY front page stories about it.

As you can see in my tagline, I'm no Christian, just someone who calls a spade a spade. My girlfriend is a liberal and I read her Times now and then, and it's pretty damned scary how these people simply do not get it--they think we are safe from the jihadists, that they don't REALLY mean the things they say...now those Christians, on the other hand...

I repeat, the lefties DON'T get it. Many here protest, and say they DO understand and just want the US to topple. The lefties do not want that, they just want the US to peacefully convert to a "good" socialist nation, one with all the bugs removed. And then we'll all be so happy the Muslims will just...well, they don't seem to think about the Muslims in the future.

I mean it's not like they plow planes into buildings, call for death for infidels, or follow someone whose last words were about killing Christians and Jews. After all it's not their fight, the Muslims don't have a problem with secularists, right?

Naw, I just buy a lot of books--I consider those I've bought in 2005 to be "old".

I'm one of those people who reads a lot, but I buy tons of books. I've had to go on a buying diet to catch up with all the unread ones. (A buying diet means I only buy five a week. :)

Cool video. I'm always looking for something short and quick to show people about Islam. This does a good job of it. I downloaded it to my computer so I can carry it around and show others. I would recommend that everyone do it.

They would rather be Dhimmis than Christians. There's where it's at...

Ahhh..., have you been reading up, lately on Christianity versus Islam? That ought to be an intereesting comparison.

How about Islam in terms of imperialism. Or Islam in terms of freedoms for society. Or Islam in terms of prosperity of their societies (the various Islamic countries).

Do you think that Christianity had anything to do with the nature of the "West" and how it grew and developed compared to Islam having to do with the nature of the those various Islamic countries and how they have developed (NOT!)....?

You must know that a book-crazed person will ALWAYS buy ANY bookshelves available? ALWAYS. You simply can't go broke offering such a person room for MORE BOOKS!

In my fairly limited reading of this topic I have to say that I was surprised about how the West is SATURATED with Christianity. Some years ago I was surprised when noted atheist Carl Sagan credited the Catholic Church with supporting the sciences in the past. It made me think about how even if there is no overt Christian force at work, it isn't rocket science to see that much of the ethics of Western countries simply parallel Christian values. I'm not going to argue on a case-by-case basis which came first--some people take far too much credit for American values being based on the Ten Commandments, when it's not being a secularist to suggest that not stealing, for example, wasn't an unknown value before the Church got behind it--but it's obvious that the US and Europe (and Australia, South America) have more in common with Christianity than at odds (or did, before the rise of post-Soviet socialist thinking).

I'm simply not prepared to discuss how Islam affected the Middle East. But based on a cursory examination, and first-hand experience with various Muslims (not casual knowledge, but longterm close contact with many individuals), I can only say that if Americans do not fear Islam, they aren't very smart.

Let me use a scenario I have posted here on FR to illustrate my position:

Liberals frequently complain about "separation of church and state" and possible infringments based on the Christian beliefs of the right wing.

By every indicator, the majority of Americans are believers in the Judeo-Christian god. It logically follows that the majority of those in our local, state and federal governments are also Judeo-Christians.

So it follows that MOST of those running our nation--including almost all of those in Congress--are Christians, with a smaller percentage being Jews. Imagine all those Christians running our government.

Now, replace all of them with Muslims.

Do you think our nation will look the same? Do you think the rights of secularists will be protected? What about the separation of church and state?

What secularists? Under Sharia there would be no secularist. If all of the people in government were Muslim we would be under Sharia. Under Sharia you are either Muslim or “of the Book” (Christian or Jew) or you are a slave or dead.

Nope no secularist here, just us Muslims.
