You miss the point.

• The purpose of Fred's fake candidacy is to make McCain viable.
• Fred will NOT enter the race if the plan works and McCain is viable.
• And Fred cannot take any conservative votes from McCain because McCain doesn't have any.

Yeah, sort of. Against the Dems, I'd still make the trip to the polls for Rudy, but McCain is (without enthusiasm) somewhat better, and if I had to choose between the two in a primary, I'd go with McCain.
